TalkTalk incident management: A timeline

DPR

Inundated

Woke up this morning to find 66 junk e-mails in my TalkTalk inbox whereas normally I would expect 5 max. Seems an odd coincidence and am wondering if connected to the data leak ? They were mainly mail box rejection messages (thank goodness) to a wide and random variety taken from my contacts and elsewhere.

How about gestures involving holding a slice of pizza or a can of beer so that channel surfing offers minimal interference with such couch based activities.

BT to rent cheaper FTTP lines to ISPs - if they stump up £1k a go

Something wrong surely

my FTTC from Talktalk just clocked in at 116 Mbps this afternoon. Should I complain.

No complaints

If it helps the debate - I live in leafy Stockport and Uswitch speed test regularly tells me I am getting >100 Mbps. My all time record last week was 198 Mbps (screen shot available on request). This from FTTC and then copper to house approx 50 m from the cabinet. Greenery and speedery.

Smug bastard

Sorry guys - on TalkTalk I get 38-40meg download and quite often tip 40-45 on early and late shifts. FTTC and then about 50m of copper to my house. I embarrassed to say I am a satisfied customer.

Better than watching paint dry

I occasionally use OOKLA to check my speed and think it (sadly) instructive to watch the plot as the speed test takes place. From that you can see that it can cycle, jump (up or down), incline, decline during the time it takes for the test. All that tells you is that "speed" is a sensitive and variable thing and without a standardised protocol for its determination, dangerous in the hands of the marketeers. Mind you, I should worry, as I consistently get 38--40 Mbps at my home PC. Now what can I do with that.

No complaints

I have just signed up for TalkTalk's up to 40 Mbps service and yesterday registered 42 Mbps at my PC. Something must be wrong, surely ?

How about

I use my tablet as a SatNav and an e-book reader and also as a mobile phone with Skype - and whilst I'll concede that all these can be done on a laptop - it's a lot more comfortable with a tablet.

Stalled at the outset

I purchased an Asus Transformer a week ago - running Android - hoping to use it as a satnav, amongst other things, and then purchased and downloaded Co-Pilot8 expecting it to autoinstall (bit of a pun there) but so far am stalled on the starting grid. My limited IT skills are not up to getting the software to function. So pleased (in a rather pyrrhic way) that others struggle with this software. I'm lost !
