Leaked docs: NSA 'Follow the money' team slurped BANK records, CREDIT CARD data

Re: US company + US servers + THE PATRIOT Act --> *complete* compromise.

No I don’t understand, it is just so unfair. It is making me nauseous having read John’s comment, and looked up the US Patriot law and realised what they are doing.

The emails between me and my girlfriend are personal. The thought of some male pervert leering at our pictures fills me with disgust. Why isn’t somebody trying to do something to stop this.

Re: US company + US servers + THE PATRIOT Act --> *complete* compromise.

Just looked this up on Wikipedia and it is disgraceful. Appropriate tools to intercept and obstruct terrorism, but they can legally look at all my emails and what I done on the internet.

I don’t want them seeing this, my girlfriends and I share a lot of intimate stuff, it’s just not right that other people can see it. What can I do now?

Re: Here we go again.

I absolutely agree it is appalling that these people monitor credit card information. There are some things you buy that you just don’t want anybody to know about but I usually use money.

I might be a lot more upset if I thought these perverts were looking at detail of emails, or god forbid Facebook.

@ Scorchio!!.

Your accusation that I am stereotyping men makes me far angrier than the original stereotype. It is not a stereotype that would make me prefer my relationships with women it has been my consistent experience, and on top of that I have some good friends who are men. I work in a male dominated environment and every day consists or trying to prove that I am as good as them. I have no desire to carry on that struggle at home.

How dare you accuse me of stereotyping when I was, validly objecting to a classic male stereotype. What do you mean anecdotal when this has been my experience? Every time I get involved it has been a total disappointment, unfulfilling and frequently painful! Men are just a pain in the arse.

Every time one of my female friends admits to no longer wanting men in their life, it is the same old comments. We aren’t super models just average looking. But there is absolutely no call for those sort of insults

Not everybody who uses PowerPoint is a HSBC bank executive. As the only effective way of presenting important project management information it’s use is pretty much unavoidable by some of us. Those of us who pretty much have to use PowerPoint in our daily working lives object to the implication that we are idiots, easily confused and panicked.

I for one object to the antagonistic reporting of Microsoft products by 'The Register'. @Yeahyeahno

Again your puerile personal attacks detract from any point that you are trying to make.

In response to the one technical comment you have made in the 21st century IT professionals need to take a more holistic perspective on the full life cycle of services supplying business functionality. The objective is that IT delivers services to the business. It is the means to an end not some sort of hobby for the ‘IT Staff’. With Microsoft Windows systems the complex architecture of the Operating system doesn’t need to be considered.

On your other point about the riots I don’t support all of the actions of the people involved, but you have to sympathise. Listening to the stories from the protestors they clearly identified themselves as being socially excluded youths who have been disenfranchised by the rest of society.

I don’t follow your argument about this support being contrary to my attitude towards porn. Do you know many women that don’t consider porn to be sexual objectification? Given the rest of your comments I guess the question should be do you know any women? You get no respect from me at all!

@Yeahyeahno

Just because you choose to code in out of date languages from the last century does not give you the right to be so insulting. If you could communicate effectively people might take your opinion a bit more seriously. If it is any of your business I have a lot of coding experience, and a higher education qualification to prove it. The college however chose to teach programming a 21st century language.

Windows 8 will be here to stay

Because innovations introduced in the Microsoft software won’t be available on Windows 7. It never ceases to amaze me that you non-technical staff seem to want to your retain old-fashioned and obsolete software.

Working on the leading edge of technology, as I do, every day I am surprised by the massive advances in both functionality, and performance of the new software. As the technological leader of the software industry much of this is produced by Microsoft. Clearly windows 8 will be a huge advance.

@Titus I have heard the only reason that companies use Ubuntu is because they are trying to save money, much the same reason as people who install Linux. At the end of the day this is a false economy, and they always end up getting a proper Windows OS in the end.

@AudiGuy @LD50

So a question for you AudiGuy & LD50. Do you supervise your teenage children 24/7 or is that you are talking out of your **** and don't have children (or maybe you just dumped them and ran off after they were born)?

Clare (web specialist)
Stop

@Jake

.....your posts suggest that you live on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Those of us who aren't as privileged have to deal with children going to see their friends (where they go on the Internet anyway), doing homework using the Internet (as an example a simple query, homework for WW1, on 'The Hun' leads to a web site with content that you don't really want a 12 year old to see) , etc.

I now view the Internet, far from being educational, as a blight on the 21st century. It is only your privileged location that allows you to make these sort of statements. The rest of us do not have the time to supervise teenage children 24/7, somebody has to clean up, cook etc. etc. This is doubly hard when you have to hold down a job as a single parent.

About time

As a parent and somebody who understands the web I have to approve of this application.

It is a bit of a start, it is all well and good other childless commentators on here saying that children should be supervised at all times, etc, etc. This just doesn't happen, and isn't realistically possible, particularly when they have smart phones anyway. You switch on all the child protection in windows, and Norton and still the kids find objectionable content.

I do feel that the authorities should do far more to either remove or block this content at source. It is nice to see an article where the author at least acknowledges the problems that parents experience.

I have to second your comments. It is disgusting the way that commentators are suggesting knee jerk reactions like shooting people (some of these protesters are kids). I would also point out that this is a generation that have been and are deprived of the opportunities that most other people take for granted. It is hardly surprising that, as well as protesting, they take a few of the things that they see other people enjoying.

What have the preceding generations, as you say people in their 50’s and 60’s, actually done? The poverty gap has widened over the last 20 years. These young people are entitled to a massive investment in social, employment and educational opportunities. The rich might have to pay a bit more tax to allow this to happen but to my mind that is only fair.

1 Billion dollars to buy Zynga does seem a lot of money, but may be they are worth that much? Since the arrival of Face book the whole web experience seems so much better. I look back to 5 years ago and all the pages from Internet explorer just seemed so boring, whereas now it is like the whole Internet is alive, and vibrant.

Speaking as a Web programmer I really respect Zynga all of their games seem brilliant. Farmville and Café World are just in a different league. I only wish I could produce web pages that were as good. What better way is there to spend a weekend than getting a load of credits, and really trying to get somewhere in Farmville, money well spent to my mind.

Whereas Microsoft were the top internet company of the last decade, just may be Zynga and Facebook will be the ones to watch in the next few years?
