Ah yes, Loudon County.....

As someone who lives not too far from Loudon County, Believe me, the place is riddled with puritanical nutbags. Who can forget this recent gem from last year......

Motorola MotoRokr S9 - Not sweatproof

I have gone through 2 pairs of these headphones and I have lost count of the number of people on various internet discussion forums who have had similar issues (read the comments here for an example - http://blog.treonauts.com/2007/05/treo_a2dp_stere.html).

These headphones should not be used for any activity that generates sweat. They are not sweatproof!! The buttons that are used to adjust volume and track number will stop working within 1-2 workouts from new and will not recover.

They are a nice design, but they are not good for an "active lifestyle".....especially if that lifestyle causes you to sweat.

Ten of the Best... Bluetooth Headsets

Have been using the original model for a year. Works very well and the noise reduction technology is amazing. I have never had a single issue with this headset, which I can't say for the other headsets I have tried over the years.

Dengue fever threatens continental US

Electro Boy

A lot of infectious diseases are seen as a third world problem.....ie poor governments who will not pay for expensive drugs. As a result of this, a lot of the bigger drug companies steer clear of working on these areas. They can make a lot more money selling cancer treatments to the first world instead.

Thankfully, some companies do appear forward thinking. For example, Novartis has set up an infectious disease research facility in Singapore (http://www.nitd.novartis.com/) that plans to offer drugs against a few infectious diseases at cost. Whether they actually succeed is another matter, but they appear to be sinking a fair amount of time and resources into the venture. Maybe some of the other large companies will follow suit. Dengue spreading to the first world should help focus their minds a little. If they think they can make a healthy profit by selling treatments in the west, then they will work on it. Their shareholders will insist.

Electro Boy

Talk to the Singaporeans. They had a rough time with dengue last year, having gotten it under control a few years ago. At this stage, given the lack of good treatments for dengue fever, prevention is the key. Empty out those water-filled plant pots and get some nets for your bed at night.

It's a runner

"Whether Truphone turns it into a commercial product will depend on what proportion of iPhone users decide to unlock their phones for application installation."

Given how easy it is to jailbreak an iPhone, I suspect this one will have no problems attracting potential users. AT&T, T-Mobile and others will watch this one very closely. I suspect they are already crafting threatening letters as I write.

Apple takes flak as AT&T drops iPhone bomb

Electro Boy

Overanalysis, lack of firm data

Apple apparently sold closer to 270,000 iPhones over the part of the opening weekend that was counted in the quarterly results (totalling something like 30 hours from initial sales to the end of the quarter). As for the discrepancy with the AT&T figure.......their activation process was far from smooth, leaving a lot of people without the ability to activate their phones.

I was kinda surprised at the fall in Apple share price, given that the figures released do not include any information beyond the 30 hour limit. Selling 270,000 phones in 30 hours is not too shabby. It'll be more interesting to see what the total comes to when the next quarterly results are published.

Computer in security flaw shocker

We're getting all hot and bothered over this??

Christ.....how many security flaws do they find in Windows each month, and we're getting our knickers in a twist over a single one in the iPhone. Has our sense of perspective gone on holiday? It's a computer. It's gonna have security flaws.
