Outstripped?
"during which time the Nexus' tech will no doubt have been outstripped, rendering it useless."
What does this even mean? I really want to know...

You pays your money...
I for one would prefer (and clearly do prefer as I just ordered a 16GB model) the IPS display with Gorilla Glass. My kids are going to go nuts playing with this thing. Tegra 3? A gaming sensation! Well, certainly daft throwaway games such as Angry Birds etc...
Since Daddy's last Funny Computer (The HP TouchPad) died, I have been in the mood for a new Funny Computer. Looks like Google came to the rescue.
Technically yes, but have you put these phones side by side? The Sensation loses on ergonomics alone. It's a Brando-esque fat pig in comparison.
Sacrifices have been made to make the One series very, very svelte and that will appeal to many more people than those who care about expansion. Both the One X and One S are utterly, utterly sexy phones. And I positively hate my Galaxy Note since seeing the X.
My wife's Xperia Mini Pro is a fabulous phone. Well made, and user friendly. I'd argue the best small screen Android implementation I have seen.
Nothing wrong their 2011 phones. They made some mistakes before then but there is no reason why they cannot start to challenge Samsung. Let's face it - Samsung phones are androgynous bricks. I still bought a Galaxy Note, but would have preferred something more Xperian....
The Min Pro had an update to 2.3.6 last night. A damn sight better than most Android manufacturers and ICS is planned in then ext month or two. I cannot complain at all about them...
"there’s no way - at least that I could find - to capture and scribble on what the screen is displaying, so it’s more a diversion than an essential."
Ummmm....did you not RTFM?!?! ;-)
Take the stylus, press the button and touch the screen for a second. A single long tap takes a screen cap and a double quick tap brings up the S-Note memo. Peasy.
Cool phone. Damn fine beastie...
And further more Sony's tablets are totally unlike the iPad, to the point where they can be argued as being the most innovative (rightly or wrongly) devices in that class. I'd kill for a Tablet S, but then again £80 cheaper is the Asus Transformer.
If anything, Samsung has lost out here by trying to ape the iPad too much. They shot themselves in the foot by excluding items such as an SD card slot and as consumers wake up to the choice offered in the market, there are far more attractive options with better aesthetics (the forthcoming Transformer Prime) and function (Tablet S).
Let Apple and Samsung continue to fight and meanwhile other OEMs are coming up with some great ideas in hardware design.
...the air around it is thin
Phew. My Phanboi urges werre gettign jittery until I checked my Galaxy Note to confirm. Ahhhh...6425 for the Samsung. I am not only a little bit jealous of the RAZR. It is a damn fine looking bit of kit. Well done Moto.
Totally disagree - the SE Xperia Mini Pro is a cracking phone. Well built with a fantastic UI. SE might have gotten off on the wrong foot but they have found their groove in both design and uability this year. You cannot really pick holes in any of their new range from the Mini right up to the Arc S apart from not having a true power users phone with dual cores. They should be quicker to get one of them out...
This one has a more powerful 1200mAh battery. I have been using one for a couple of days and can confirm that if you are on a 3G connection and cane it, it runs flat within a working day. That said, use it like a phone, stick to 2G and browse the web moderately and the thing lasts well over a day. The small screen obfuscates excessive use of it as a media device (outside of audio) anyway.
There's nothing objective about this piece as demonstrated by all the above comments. It's full of holes based on self interest and conjecture. He may have a logical point, but from a consumers perspective the idea of a forked Android means I would never buy an Amazon tablet. I want choice and not another version of Apple.
I was worried as I placed an order on the 23rd for one from Amazon at full price. A little upset at Amazon passing the buck but have been told by HP WebOS support that all they need is a copy of the invoice dated on or before the 23rd.
That said, the thing is going back to Amazon as I needed it cancelled anyway...got a Tesco refund last week and don't need two. No inflated eBay selling for me. I am a responsible scalper.
But one email on the 8th from Amazon saying it would be delivered on the 15th, and yet the thing turned up the next day. What's that about? No time to cancel in my book, filled with busy days of reading this website...
The article hits the nail (or should that be nails) on the head. And also underlines one of the current failings for any one who got their mitts on a TouchPad. Like me, who's typing this on one, the bargain was too much to pass up. I am an Android devotee, having shamelessly indoctrinated every member of my family into getting one. I did not want a TouchPad. I didn't want an iPad.
But the prospect of getting a 32gb tablet from a good manufacturer for £115 is unbelievable.
now I have it, I can never justify getting an Android tablet of this form factor, but I am still holding for a successful port of Android 4 to it. Would I still the currently mooted 2.2 Cyanogen build on it even if it were perfected? No. Within an hour of using it, WebOS has proved itself an excellent operating system and putting anything less than a tablet specific OS would be stupid.
But now I am waiting to see whether the author's point about the platform breeding apps is going to be fruitful now that there is a captive audience of nonsensical bargain hunters like me scouring the HP app store (which is fantastic by the way, if only in construction and execution) looking for all those freebies that I take for granted on Android.
I hope it continues, but if not, the TouchPad will always be a very good media and web delivery mechanism, which is what it is intended to be.
I want choice. #FreeTheGalaxyTab
If someone goes into Currys or Dixons and the Galaxy Tab is not available, they are going to be most impressed by the iPad. You cannot get a Transformer there and I doubt the Xoom is sexy enough. That equates to Apple forcing their main competitor out of the European market.
Good to see Dixons is sticking to it's guns.
The R seems the perfect compromise between cutting edge and still top of the pops. I have reservations about the S2 and would happily settle for the Galaxy R as the next step on from my Galaxy S. Let's face it, the Galaxy Ace is not for power users...and not everyone wants the ultra thin S2. I'd prefer a bit more chunk and a bit of metal and then you would probably find something that will slap the HTC Sensation around a bit more. Samsung are enforcing the anti-plastic argument too much with the S2.
Bring it Sammy. Bring it home to Johnny...
Since when is this argument about Bryan Adams? Are you that dense that trumpet blowing of Mr Music Insider went over your head? He could have added anyone in there from Pee Diddy to Charlotte Church. The names aren't important.
Don't attack Bryan Adams. The Groover from Vancouver (despite being born in Reading) did nothing but write some seminal rock albums. Granted that XI was severely lacking, but Reckless, Into The Fire and Waking Up the Neighbours are classics.
And everyone knows that Michael Bolton is second in the housewifes choice. Apart from my wife...she hates him.
