Israeli futurologist predicts terror horror

I'm surprised...

...that Captain Cyborg hasn't popped up with a comment on this. Who else is so well placed to share his thoughts on chip implants?

Consumers happy to pay 'green premium'

Hmm...

I wonder who sponsored this survey. Pushing consumer acceptance of price increases means that technology companies can maintain their margins while claiming to be ecologically sound at the same time.

Why should the consumer pay more when the companies responsible for the provision of this technology have made significant profits on the previous non-green versions? Shouldn't the companies absorb the costs in return for the years spent polluting and not recycling?

Business IT has always been a commodity

and if a consultancy has been unable to deliver a competing service then it has failed in favour of those that can. Why shouldn't Google push for the next step in distributed service provision when they're ideally placed to do so?

Arguing that Google's actions will "damage the IT eco-system" is nonsense; IT is one area that consistently evolves to take advantage of the advances in technology. If it didn't then we'd all still be using dumb terminals connected to mainframes.

Change or die - it's always been the way.

I know it sounds just like the urban legend referred to earlier

but in my first job I really did have a problem with a server that crashed at around 5pm every Friday, which turned out to be when the cleaner came in and unplugged it to plug in the vacuum cleaner. Mind you, it didn't need a UPS with alarm to resolve, just a sticky note on the plug asking that another socket was used.

Mind you, this was the same client who called in a fault with a printer not working when it had been unplugged and they hadn't thought to check...

Jobs: one more thing... a browser war

Opera?

I notice that there's no speed comparison with Opera in the main article. Although the comparison is not quantified it'd be good to know how Opera fares.

@Killian; regarding the comment of "Forcing/tricking ppl into downloading something then crowing about the stats". I wonder how IE became the most widespread browser installation in the first place, especially considering it's regarded so badly. You can't really knock Apple for bundling when they're only trying to keep up with the competition.
