Re: ZX Spectrum - best keyboard ever! (nt)

Yep, this machine is they they have added a keyboard using mac style butterfly keys on to a notirous dead flesh keyed system and ended up with is a flipping lovley keyboard feel that is up there with decent laptop keyboards and certainly feels like it's too nice for a kickstarter.

It's only a game: Lara Croft won't save enterprise tech – but Jet Set Willy could

NobbyNobbs

It's a nice bit of kit and even since formal release a number of FPGA synthesis cores have been ported, e.g. a load of ZX UNO cores

Sinclair QL is on the way too.

I feel sorry for the Vega backers.

Oracle says migrating on-prem ERP to cloud now easier than upgrade

NobbyNobbs

Re: If true, then it's better to leave entirely

Its usually run adpatch, test, apply new patches, tweak the occasional CEMLI and patch again. Rinse and repeat.

Works for each R12 upgrade I did. 11i to 12 was a little more involved but was treading new grounds in 2009.

Id wonder how they cope with customisations as they are pretty much barred from cloud. I think even DFFs are removed now.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Microsoft's 'Ms Pac-Man beating AI' is more Automatic Idiot

To me it sounds like the principle its using is an a* algorithim with an adaptive map weightings based on pills eaten, fruit and ghost momement (as if they are edible themselves).

Re: Is there a way i can register as a tech business?

You have forgot two important aspects:

1- Using the buzzwords Disruptive Technology (i think that means assaulting someone with a mobilephone)

2 - Walking around with a sense of entitlement and wondering why people arn't climbing over each other to give you money.

Of course you also need some crapoy mobile phone app that foes things like draw moustashes on cats.

Is hybrid cloud fundamental for your organisation? Tell us, readers!

what it feels like

"But the marketing shift towards cloud appears to be unstoppable."

There, subtle fix but more accurate from a customer perspective. Its all about sales and land grabbing a customers IT infrastructure to sell more later, sod being pragmatic.

Microsoft herds biz users to Windows 10 by denying support for Win 7 and 8 on new CPUs

NobbyNobbs

It wont make any difference in the end. Big corporates will upgrade as the consultancies and auditors will scare them about compliance and risk. Many IT managers will get another year of safe employmemt managing the upgrade.. Contractors will make a nice killing in the migration, companies will make a nice killing on upgrades for incompatible software. The money will keep churning around as Microsoft dictates the PC sales market (which is what this really is evidence of). MS & hardware are desparate to get the upgrade cycle kick started again as they have shot them selves in the foot pushjng "the cloud save your day".

Smaller companies who cant afford to will retain old PCs and run windows 7 well beyond end of life, some may move to Linux, more will move to Apple (in the end commercial support is considered king of compliance).

I could imagine alternate firmware loaded for something like a BB-Father Jack, wanders around randomly swearing frequently.

When the IT department is 'just another supplier'

NobbyNobbs

things never really change

Its the same old "Keen novice who thinks wiggling a mouse and using Excel (and maybe a bit of Access) makes you an IT professional. As already said here, its when it goes tits up or they didn't think they needed backups "cos its in eth clowd so safe" or the developer doing it to budget rushed or bodged documentation that they realise a good team of skilled staff is what they needed.

A better model is to centralise the IT function (its a function OF BUSINESS not a separate entity) and get them bringing on additional developers as needed to make sure they are properly managed and don't deliver ropey shite that needs them in again to get paid again to come back in and fix it.

In redneck heaven, internet outages are the American Way

reminds me of:

Given an infinite number of pickups with an infinite number of rednecks with an infinite number of shotguns and an infinite number of road signs they could write the whole works of Shakespear in braile.

Bored with trading oil and gold? Why not flog some CLOUD servers?

NobbyNobbs

Is it really trading servers though?

With trading services such as power etc you are trading the delivery of something, e.g. Electricity. With hosted services you are sending them stuff to process not the other way?

With servers although they are trading contracts for usage of server tin, aren't they actually trading who gets the contract to hold & process your data?

I can see this going very badly.

Virtual reality? Two can play THAT GAME, says Sony: New headset revealed for the PS4

NobbyNobbs

I can see a flaw in this

Its bad enough holding the move controller, which looks like an ann summers toy with illuminated ball on the end, now they produce a gimp mask to go with it.

'Burning platform' Elop: I'd SLASH and BURN stuff at Microsoft, TOO

NobbyNobbs

Re: If Elop were CEO...

For some reason I read that as "he'd do things that lose money and focus on things that make money" which seems to be more like they typical CEO.

This whole debacle has come about by some self prompting analyst spouting off and morphed into an "Elop is doing this" via crap news articles and blogs. If its did turn out this way, xbox would be boned as a stand alone product as it I would end up needing a feck load of corporate licensing for the buyers in the future let alone how they would deal with the servers. The PS4 and Steam box would kill it in a year sadly.

makes some sense to ditch bing which I suspect gets most queries from people who don't know how to change their default search engine.

of course it depends on if they think brand and market share are important and have a value.

Cloud computing

I think the term is clown computing rather than cloud.

Shove all your data on remote severs run by clowns with their head in the clouds when it comes to security.
