Microsoft hikes SQL Server 2012 price 'by 20 per cent'

WTFF

Used to be a no-brainer

when evaluating MS SQL vs Oracle for small-scale applicaions - particularly BI systems. The simple licencing model from MS and easily recognised value for money, especially when compared to alternatives, made choosing MS SQL a straightforward decision that required little research and basic business case. The proposed (new) pricing will make me (and others) look more carefully at price and what's included and look closely again at Business Objects/Cognos etc or Open Source options.

Samsung Ultrabook specced up by retailer

1366 x 768 - WTF

Go back 10 or so years and 1024x768 was a good spec for a laptop. Today 768 is just not good enough for any serious work. Like others commenting those numbers are enough for me to say not interested.

When will Samsung/Sony/Lenovo etc realise that if you're prepared/able to pay a high price you're probably not just palying games - see Fuzz comment.

Local radio stations band together against DAB

DAB is double crap

Bought a Sony DAB and filled it with batteries - it ran for about 6 hours giving poor and unstable sound - I can see the local transmitter out of my office window (though it did provide a localised heat source on my desk - why do these thing run so hot?).

I removed the back of the radio then stabbed the inards with a screwdriver replaced the cover and returned it to the shop next day for a refund.

Fuck Sony for making such a shitty piece of kit - wasting my time and batteries.

Paris Hilton

how?

Can anyone please explain how signal from base station 10 miles away is "sent into an area 50 square miles in size" and how if base station is only 1 mile away "figures drop to a shade over a tenth of a square mile for the base station, and .8 from the handset"

Paris - coz I might not actually know just how stupid I am...
