Soak up CO2 with sponges, says CSIRO

Ironically...

This environment saving chemical (azobenzene) is apparently carcinogenic and currently used as a pesticide:

I wonder if this catches on if we'll have to evolve a separate azobenzene trapping/disposal programme.

Re: Trusted integrated innovative managed business security risk solutions?

There is very little credibility to any one security certification agency so those looking to tout their certs just throw all of them in, like a scrabble bag in a blender.

NY Museum of Modern Art embraces 14 video games

They've chosen pioneers, but not necessarily masters

They've chosen some early pioneers of the genre but what about games that have refined the formats and used them for storytelling? E.g. Grim Fandango is probably one of the most noir things published since the genre was invented. You could even argue something like Spec Ops: The Line belongs here.

Re: regarding Uwe's, ahem, films

I'd heard the same, and that the tax loophole he was using has apparently been closed/is no longer offered as an incentive. Surprisingly his output seems to have slowed somewhat for what I am sure are unrelated reasons.

When will signature scanning end?

I've posted this idea before, but will signature based scanning ever end? It's trivial to get around now; 'whack a mole' characterizes it perfectly. The question is, what's the answer? White listing/digital signatures? Heuristics?

If you like Sins of a Solar Empire...

You should check out Sword of The Stars. It's made by Indie developer Kerberos, who have some guys on their team who worked on Homeworld: Cataclysm. 4x outer space combat gameplay that keeps you nailed to your seat for that 'one more turn' pheneomenon.

Is this the first big password leak that was actually hashed somewhat properly?

I think the model is broken; reactive anti-virus developers are simply being out-staffed and out-worked from a resource utilization standpoint.

FunnyJunk lawyer doubles down on Oatmeal Operation Bear Love

MyronC

I haven't seen so many footbullets since the Operation Xenu/Scieno days. Does this guy just not get it? Or does he get it, and just hopes he can brass through it? His suit fails on its face in that there's no smoking gun for:

- Oatmeal encouraging hacking

- The charities encouraging anything

The only thing that might have some kind of result is IndieGoGo's status in California, which theoretically won't have an effect on this anyway.

Nice gal but had some weird ideas

... about homosexuality in specific:

"It’s a proven fact that a single anal sex experience causes one to be homosexual. The hormones released by a sexual situation involving the anus being broached, are the same hormones found in large quantities in effeminate homosexual males. For example, when I was much younger I knew a young man who was for all intents and purposes, heterosexual. He was mugged, and involved in a rape situation involving a tent peg. This one event was enough to have him start on a road that eventually led to him becoming effeminate and gay. "

I read all her books growing up but she started going wacky kookoo near the end. Still sad to see her go, she did bring a unique character to the SFF world.

Do we want payment processors judging this?

Everyone freaked out when payment processors 'chose' (after governmental pressure) to stop working with WikiLeaks, is this much different from a procedural standpoint? We know who's a scam and who's not, but does that mean that the CC companies will, and will be able to reliably distinguish between the baddies and just normal operators?

Cybercrooks set up shop in Canada

I bet you...

That 90% of it is in Quebec and 90% of that 90% is in Montréal. It feels like Quebec is Canada's Nigeria or something by the amount of fraud I see originating from there.
