Apple reportedly plans ARM shift for laptops

A vibrant Mac App store is key

With over a year to go to this possible transition, gives Apple and it's ISVs enough time to recompile their apps to the ARM instruction set. I agree with those that have mentioned the importance of a Mac App store. Assuming Apple has trained it's users and it's ISVs that the Mac App store is the primary application distribution conduit then a transition from Intel to ARM for some of it's lower-performance cheaper laptops would be largely painless for it's users. I've written more about it here: http://nickager.com/blog/Mac-app-store-enables-future-ISA-switch/
