Britain's HUMAN DNA-strewing Moon mission rakes in £200k

N13L5

Human DNA = hazardous material

Putting our DNA on the moon is retarded:

If good aliens find it, they will have trouble to no end, given we are the most aggressive and unpleasant species this planet had the misfortune to be infested with. At least they should also put a warning beacon, telling any passers by to stay away from the moon in the name of their own safety.

If bad aliens find it, our DNA will enable them to design very specific weapons to eradicate us while preserving the planet for themselves.

So either way, its the idea of a nutter.

This is why we CAN have nice things: Samsung Galaxy Alpha

N13L5

don't know how the review arrives at Apple's and HTC's design being better than this :p

both their mobes have metal framed in plastic, which looks cheap, gimmicky and in the iPhone 6's case downright stupid. Like it was made for the trailer park crowd.

This Samsung's metal bezel excels with simplicity, functionality and a beautifully machined camfer.

Its shape strengthens the corners and prevents the phone from slipping out of your hand. The corners also give your hand an immediate indication where you're holding the phone, so you know if the button is gonna be a little higher or a little lower, depending on how you grabbed it.

People lacking the slightest design background mistaking industrial design for poor personal taste and then writing about it. :p

How the FLAC do I tell MP3s from lossless audio?

N13L5

I don't need special cables to hear the MP3 warble in pretty much everything.

To hear that nasty MP3 warble, I need not use special cables, no super high end DAC, just a quality pair of 12 year old KRK V8 speakers or a decent midrange pair of earphones.

CURSE YOU, 'streaming' music services! I want a bloody CD

N13L5

streaming music sounds like crap

Unless you have really crappy ears, you can hear all the compression artifacts, not to mention the hick-ups from imperfect connections. And where's your music if you can't get a connection, or you failed to pay some bill?

A FLAC file recorded from Vinyl or CD is really the only way to go in an age of cheap storage and easy availability of reasonably priced high quality pro-audio gear. And if you really love your music, you need an EMP proof cabinet for your music storage and playback gear.

Google grand fromage Eric Schmidt: Backing climate denier lobby a 'mistake'

N13L5

Blaming Climate change on CO2 is just to justify chemtrails and charge for breathing in the future

Suppose Eric Schmidt came into contact with the real powers and was given a choice.

Human emission of CO2 amounts to what, 2 or 3% of total CO2, which is needed for life to exist.

I think its an excuse for chem-trails for the U.S. military's project to weaponize the atmosphere.

And it'll help corporations start to eventually charge us for the air we breathe.

Putin knows there's nobody else with even a faint chance to steer Russia through Nato's and the EU's continual encroachment on Russia's turf. Of course our western propaganda tells us, that we're in the right and he's in the wrong, but as usual, what we're doing is in no way the claimed bringing of democracy, (which took the place of 'bringing Christendom') as the excuse de jour for a blatant land grab.

"The Dyson 360 Eye has come about after 16 years of “intensive R&D”, according to the British firm, and the company reckons it will blow other robotic slave hoovers out of the water."

For sure, cause a lot of the R&D went into taking continuous 360 video of your house with its EYE, record any conversations and send them back to MI6 and NSA with a scrambled, undetectable, frequency hopping sender that looks like a vacuum cleaner brush.

It can also emit poison gas if intelligence suspects that you've been bad.

Sandisk's QC and service in the consumer space is terrible.

While I'm sure Sandisk takes good care of QC for its enterprise products, in the consumer space, they are horrible. Not only will they ship out SD cards that couldn't possibly have seen testing of any kind, their "customer support" doesn't deserve the name.

I won't deal with a company that treats any of their customers shoddy, because its only a matter of time before you end up on their "not important enough to our bottom line to deal with" list.

re: PC gaming - gaming for people who like fixing broken crap.

Sorry for your poor luck with choosing equipment.

Other than broken down drives, which are also present in consoles, I seem to have no issue between the times when I decide things have advanced enough since my last build, to build a new system.

And building them is kinda more fun than most games ^^

N13L5

If this "Steam console" can't run GTA V, I don't see any point in this.

If you want a small gaming computer, build one inside of Silverstone's SG 08. Its a squeeze, but its as small as you can make it and still keep 2 key gaming system elements: really good low noise cooling and a high end dedicated GPU. I generally prefer aluminum cases from Lian Li, but Silverstone has them beat in regards to gamer layout and size.

Ironically, Gigabyte's own GPU cards with 3 large, slow-running integrated fans were the best I found for this purpose.

I just need a good Xbox and PS4 emulation software for windoze now :P

because no matter what games I'm missing, I'll never buy a stinking console.

Steve Ballmer: Thanks to me, Microsoft screwed up a decade in phones

N13L5

Re: "to pretend that Microsoft weren't the driving force behind a massive"

"to pretend that Microsoft weren't the driving force behind a massive and beneficial societal change is a little blinkered."

If Microsoft hadn't been there, some other corporate arse would have been riding that wave instead.

It was simply the time for that change

N13L5

Re: sounds like

Sounds more like Ballmer has no clue what he flubbed:

1) Not updating or even fixing widely reported problems on Windows CE for a decade, while they had north of 36% market share on a variety of portable devices, including some fairly nice HTC phones.

2) Allowing continuation of a moronic middle management structure, permitting mid managers to sideline each other's projects for office politics - like Microsoft's Messenger tablet, which pre dated Apple's iPhone by years.

3) Allowing Sinowski to manhandle Windows development, turning Windows 8 into a wanna-be dictator on your computer, rather than the obsequious butler an OS should be. More specifically, making the new touch interface the default only on touch devices, and leaving regular computer users to discover new features at their own leisure, rather than being forced by removal of everything they knew how to get their work done. Could have avoided the whole backlash.

4) following only Microsoft's new corporate tollbooths-everywhere strategy paired with complete disregard what would actually be useful to customers. Completely forgotten that Gates killed Lotus and Word Perfect with a razor sharp focus on what would make Word and Excel most useful to those users.

MANIC MINERS: Ten Bitcoin generating machines

N13L5

Re: I'm not some kind of hippy or anything, and it's an interesting experiment....

Not to mention, all these mining gear shops are selling you their previous generation hardware, while saying they're working as fast as they can on the current generation to be able to sell that to you. But in truth, they're using the current generation hardware for their own mining, until they complete building the next newer generation of hardware for themselves upon which they'll happily sell you the generation they've already stopped using.

Given the logarithmic curve of increasing difficulty in mining additional Bitcoins, that makes perfect sense for them, and the hardware sales are just icing on the real cake.

Waiting for the next market-manipulation-induced dip by the international banking cartel might net you more coins than the always-obsolete(TM) mining hardware you can buy.

"Linux is nothing but windows or mac with a different paint job"

how much more retarded can clueless nonsense get...?

Linux is a fundamentally different operating system with its desktop purposely made to look similar to windows and mac to make it less alien to potential new users.

So, what are differences that would actually matter to OS users?

N13L5

Re: Am I misunderstanding?

A concave display (old Samsung Nexus) has the following advantages:

1) decreased reflections.

2) decreased chance to get scratched over most of its surface.

.

For A convex display (new iPhone), I can only think of disadvantages at the moment:

1) a large increase in reflections, like a fish eye, it'll pick up freakin everything

2) increased chance of collecting scratches over all of its surface. (hence Apple's new plant for synthetic sapphire glass)

.

If someone can think of ANY advantage for a convex display, please do tell!

Re: Here we go again

The actual share of Windphones could be somewhat higher, if you consider that only the very simple minded or senile would end up owning one, after getting bamboozled by some retarded advertising flash.

N13L5

Re: Orlowsky''s well known...

You are absolutely correct.

Elop's "mistakes" were just too impossibly unlikely for anyone with half a brain. It was too obviously on purpose to announce all existing products as dead, without having any new products to sell for two years.

I hope this conspiracy will be cleared up by the Finnish authorities and the parties involved will serve long jail sentences.

And this meandering article is so full of slant, at the same time panning Android as it is subtly shilling for Microsoft.

I've tried iOS, Windphone, BB and Android and Android is hands down the best, when it comes to flexibility and the user being able to exert his will over how he wants things to work on the phone.

At the same time, I'm far from being a Google fan, I find it atrocious that they tell every manufacturer who wants to make a Nexus device that they have to make it without Micro-SD card slot in order to force people into the cloud. As expected, the more successful corporations get, the more asinine they get.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active: The mobe for CHUCK NORRIS TYPES

N13L5

misinformation much?

quoting the article: "It’s probably all for show as the S4 is not a tough phone by any stretch of the imagination"

I agree that the bumpers and pins are mostly show, but the S4's polycarbonate body is actually rather tough already in the regular version. Its won at least one abuse test over Apple's alu kit and various other phones.

Polycarbonate might be "plasticy" to you, and between your lines, its visible that you look down on plastic, but this particular type of plastic is not cheap and its very sturdy and handles abuse extremely well.
