Five things Sony needs to do save the PS3

Shiny Games

Thanks for the comments...

I posted this up originally on http://www.pspsps.tv (little plug)... and just wanted to answer a few of the comments on here...

Chu called it a "contradiction" to say Sony should go mainstream and avoid quirky, yet also should go cutting-edge and cool. I don't think of that as so much of a contradiction as a balancing act. WipEout is the perfect example - cutting-edge, cool and yet it hit the mainstream moment. Little Big Planet is too "gamey", too self-consciously fun, cutesy etc. to quite be a new WipEout. What Sony needs is to make a Halo or Grand Theft Auto - a new iconic character and/or franchise that drives console sales by serving up what the mainstream currently wants.

Matt said the Reg has it in for the PS3. Couldn't comment on that. But this was originally posted on a PS3 blog that's pro PS3. I love the PS3, but it's clear Sony are not pushing its strengths well, and I don't think they were really ready for its launch.

The question now is whether they will fix the PS3's problems before Nintendo and Microsoft get too far ahead... answers on the back of a postcard, please.
