Got a Windows Phone 8 mobe? It's now officially obsolete. Here's why...

Re: Pity

You know Classic Shell has saved my sanity for so many years on so many Windows versions. People don't appreciate it enough. Without Classic Shell, Windows will be far more miserable than it is already is (forced bloated updates, unusable UI, dumbed down uncontrollable everything, updates wreaking havoc with your stable setup and junk processes eating your memory doing nothing important).

Classic Shell, Audacity downloads infected with retro MBR nuke nasty

Re: UEFI affected as well

This malware ran from Windows but the OS is irrelevant here. Once it gets admin rights, it can run from any OS to overwrite the MBR or wreak havoc on the EFI system partition. The installer was not signed but users ignored it. It was user-error.

UEFI affected as well

This particular malware was very new and detected only by AVG and Kaspersky as a generic threat. It makes UEFI PCs unbootable as well. Only Secure Boot PCs were not affected.

If Classic Shell is crashing, you can create a crash dump using these instructions: http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6 and post the dump to their forum. The developer is so responsive he will fix the crash in the next version.

Classic Shell is the best one since 2013

Ever since version 4.0 of the superb, FREE Classic Shell was released, it left behind Start8/Start10, StartIsBack, and all other Start menus far behind eating dust. Here's a feature comparison: http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2399

Windows 7 overtakes XP - finally

Thumb Down

Statscounter is not reliable

Microsoft themselves cite Netapplications as a more accurate, more reliable source for all their Windows and IE stats so doh.

WTF?

Ignorant

Are you not aware of the fact that you can easily download service packs and updates from the Download Center ONCE and slipstream them into XP setup using /s switch. Who downloads all of them every single time you reinstall?

Moving to Windows 7: Is it worth it?

FAIL

Windows 7 is a gimmick

Windows 7 is just like Vista rehashed. There are many good useful features of XP removed and broken. Poor usability. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_features_removed_in_Windows_7 and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_features_removed_in_Windows_Vista . Unnecessary GUI changes. Vista was innonative but horrible usability wise and removed things. Windows 7 is Vista with two or three features and again many features removed.

Windows 7 is a gimmick

Windows 7 is just like Vista rehashed. Full of gimmicks and fancy tricks. Aero Snap? There's a far better version in XP called Tile Horizontally or Tile Vertically that isn't limited to arranging just two windows but any number you select. There are many good useful features of XP removed and broken in Windows 7. The file manager, Windows Explorer was utterly destroyed in Vista and becomes worse in Windows 7. Windows 7 is Vista with few new features and again many features removed and fancy gimmicks and shiny graphics added. Sure it's more secure and XP is also *secure enough*.
