Time to make up: Realtime collaboration comes to Excel

Re: Less of a breakthrough . . .

It's a current feature of Excel Online, and has been for ages. This brings it to the desktop version.

Re: Nice but....

Can't you just use a MHL adapter in the microUSB port? Even the official HDMI dock costs less than £20.

Apple sticks finger in dyke, cuts off Dutch flood of Galaxy S, SII, Ace

I suspect you don't keep a copy of the Oxford English Dictionary on your desk.

'or take the frequency to 1000Hz'

Surely it's DC through a USB.

HTC phones held up at US ports after Apple patent ban

FAIL

Re: No, screw motorola and samsung.

'Apple wants to keep the stuff it invented to itself so its products have unique features'

You do know what patent HTC have breached? Apple were as much the inventor of this 'feature' as they were the inventors of the wheel.

Re: problem with magazines on tablets

I have a digital Edge magazine subscription but I use Zinio rather than the Apple default reader because I want to be able to access the magazine on my Andriod phone as well as my iPad. The magazine is delivered as a pdf which remembers where I last was, has clickable links, and gives me the option to view just the text so no need to pan and zoom. I had no idea these options weren't available for other readers.

Apple lands slide-to-unlock patent blow on Motorola

Re: Prior art

If you look at the details of Apple's attempt to block the Galaxy Nexus in the US, they are already claiming that the phone infringes their face unlock patent.

Galaxy Nexus audio bug patched... unofficially

Bootloader

Not quite right. I believe that the fix is an updated radio, which is possible to be provided as an over the air update. The issue is that you need to unlock the bootloader if you want to install it via this unofficial channel.

Unlocking the bootloader is relatively trival on any Nexus phone. You simply download the Android SDK and type in the appropriate 'unlock' command in Fastboot.

Happy

Fixed apparently

Apparently Google/Samsung have completed the revised radio fix for this issue. Paul at MoDaCo - who tends to be pretty reliable with these things - has it available to download if you can't wait for it to be officially pushed out.

Call recording

MIUI, a very comprehensive Android ROM (and iOS look alike) has call recording functionality built into the main OS.

HulloMail

You can use a service like HulloMail for visual voicemail on 3. I use it on T-Mobile because they charge for access to your own voicemail.

It's that a Blu-ray icon on the DVD dirve? If so that makes it a much more interesting prospect.

The Touchdown mail app for Android supports SD card encryption. Not the most beautiful UI in the world, but it's definitely a business ready app.

Apple plan to rate shops etc by number of iPhones visiting

Thumb Up

"Apple have made sure they are the only ones authorised to use the users' unique IDs"

That's good, I'd hate for my personal location data to fall into the hands of a large, greedy, multinational corporation...

Google woos enterprises to Android with new security offerings

Touchdown

Try Touchdown, it's a much better Exchange client - ugly as sin though. I think there's a free 30 day trial.

Rores

Touchdown

Have you tried an alternative mail client. I was unhappy with the stock Android client so spent a while trying out a few alternatives and ultimately ended up sticking with Touchdown. It's ugly as sin but feature packed and reliable. There's a thirty day free trial.

Electric cars not as 'green' as advertised

Rores

108g/km - Really?

What a lot of people fail to realise is that in order to get anywhere close to 108g/km in the diesel you have to drive like an old lady with very weak right leg muscles, who enjoys going on long journeys on empty dual carriageways. Due to the very high part and full load efficiency characteristics of electric motors you can drive it like you stole it all the time and still get close to the 81g/km.

@ Steve 44 - Of course they'll be making extra electricity to power electric cars - it's not comparable to the "the bus is going anyway" scenario.
