MIT's mind-reading Mosh pits itself against SSH daemons

Yes, most of the problems regarding "far" remote access are solved now, with screen and/or other tricks that were more prevalent a decade ago. Typing with 100ms+ feedback indeed needs some getting used to, after you were exposed to this century's LANs. It seems to be a skill these days, just like talking while hearing your own voice delayed. Telnet, that we all forgot, even had a linemode (local echo mode), that can be emulated:

rlwrap ssh $* "zsh -i"

However, the technology still sounds interesting, it appears it could be more useful than a mix of other solutions for related problems... I'm still annoyed by local uncoordinated wi-fi access points, just to make it easy for people to connect to the "closest" one for no reason. Such design decisions still make command line access awkward at times.

Dell flees netbook market, dumps Minis

WTF?

Barely escaped...

I was just eyeing with one yesterday... Would be unsettling to have another abandoned Dell product sitting next to my Streak.

Streamlining the product range makes sense if you strip the products without future, but if all you have left are the same products everyone else has, then you'll just be one of the common vendors.

Hands on with the Samsung Galaxy Note

Alien

actually it's the perfect size for the rest of us

Another Dell 5 user here. Really the only awkward about it is holding it while talking (but you could say that's true for the iPhone 4 as well). All other phones look funnily small afterwards...

With bluetooth everywhere, the size it's a non-issue though. The screen is good for my aging eyes, and just about perfect for a car navigation piece as well.

pet peeve

It would be nice if everything that everything would be declared misleading that has an obvious meaning to the majority of people in and outside of the field?

Or at least if the opposite fits the actual description better...
