I suspect it was the reasonable level of low-end torque that made it "feel faster". I'd imagine it would bottom out pretty sharply over say 40-50mph. Probably grand for in-town driving but I'm not 100% convince to suitability for motorway driving

Re: broken metacarpals
A "boxers fracture" is usually a fracture of the 5th (sometimes the 4th) metacarpal i.e. the one for your pinkie finger.
The usual cause is poor punching technique and/or a relatively weak wrist causing the fist to "roll" on impact and subjecting these weaker metacarpals to a transverse force ultimately resulting in a break.
I Am Not A Doctor but I do have some experience of being on the receiving end of a few metacarpal fractures on both hands

UK kids' charity lobbies hard for 'opt-in' web smut access
Surely the obvious solution is for the market to decide? Launch a "child-friendly" ISP with all the content filtering at the ISP-level and have separate all-in ISPs where you can surf how where and what the hell you want.
Of course no filters are infallible as there's nothing to stop people uploading questionable content to otherwise benign sites like Facebook and Twitter. Sure they'll be removed eventually but by then the damage is done and the image of goatse.jpg shall be indelibly etched into the fragile mind of Little Johnny.

I actually found the Cancom shop in Edinburgh OK- had my MacBook Pro serviced there a couple of times. I did have a bit more of a battle with them over a battery that failed 6 months after they replaced it but that got sorted out too.
It was conveniently close to work for me too.
I rarely bought hardware from there though other than some iPhone accessories and a portable hard drive.
Mind you this might be a sign that the rumoured Apple store is going to happen sooner rather than later!

Gadgets
I agree with the anti-gadget crowd to a certain extent. Electronic gadgets of this sort can make you rely on them too much to a point where if they break or you have to drive a car without them you're a bit lost.
However if this Focus is anything like the previous model, where the rear and side visibility were atrocious you probably *do* need these gadgets unless you're a proponent of the "Paris" school of motoring (i.e. reverse until you feel a slight bump, etc).
