That's called a pantrymime. Walking around making scissor-motions while looking for the scissors.

Use an 8-char Windows NTLM password? Don't. Every single one can be cracked in under 2.5hrs

Re: Maximum Password length

My problem with the 'enter the 4th 8th and penultimate character' sites is that you've got to remember the place value of each character or resort to counting on fingers.

Quick, what's the 9th, 13th and 18th character in correcthorsebatterystaple (without resorting to fingers)?

Fun fact: GPS uses 10 bits to store the week. That means it runs out... oh heck – April 6, 2019

iPad Mini vs Nexus 7: inch makes all the difference, says Apple CEO

Too wide

At 135mm wide, if you've got small hands like mine (no sniggering at the back) then the combination of aspect ratio and screen size will make the mini too big for single-handed edge grip. There's next-to-no edge bezel to make room for a thumb grip.

If you look at the photos that are all over the place, you can see that its either a one-handed fingers and ham balancing act in portrait mode or the usual two-handed controller grip in landscape mode (unless you're one of those octave-and-a-half freaks).

Snap suggests Apple out to 'screw' hardware hackers

I call fake.

Just think of the impracticality of actually mass-production assembling anything with screw that has only 1 degree of rotational symmetry.

And that thread... it won't thread-form in plastic or thread-cut in metal.

Won't somebody think of the mechanicals?

I cant see any mounting holes; and with connectors round all four sides it's not going to be easy to box-up one of these.

What do you want to do now?

You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door.

There is a small mailbox here.

On a tankful, my car would get the last gallon for free if there was a 10/litre difference. That's good for about 53 miles. It might mean that I'd fill up near work rather than near home...

Amazon Kindle 4

Personally, I'd miss the keypad; but at least the on-screen version has numbers in the same set as the letters. Unlike the Kindle 3.

Make your own guitar with a 3D printer

Wot? No neck?

The tricky bit of making a guitar is the neck.

He didn't make the neck on a 3D printer.

Aha! I see what they've done... By not Fn mapping on the comma and period keys, they've had to forgo a + and a _.

Motorola Defy Android smartphone

Not as tough as it makes out to be...

I bought one (T-mobile £10/month - £115 upfront: 100mins) for my daughter for Xmas.

Unfortunately she has already managed to craze the screen glass by dropping it (allegedly) from 'knee-height'. I suspect that there may also have been an element of forward motion as well... :(

Now that its working OK I'm impressed with the screen quality and general zippiness (compared to my Wildfire).

The new screen was a £40 repair.
