Dropbox unblocked in China ... for now

pix30

It's never really been blocked

Yes - the website has been blocked (unless you use a VPN), but the desktop and mobile clients have always worked fine. I've been in China for three years and have never had an issue using Dropbox. It's a little more difficult to sign up for a new account or use the web front end (hint: search term - VPN), but not much more so.

Re: Old Manuals

No - I think that you're right. I was taught at Manchester by a Dr Lindsey in the mid 80s who was a complete Algol bigot. He forced us to use Algol-68 (the pain, the pain). He used to proudly tell us that the whole Algol 68 language could be validated using the BNF parser and so it was impossible to write incorrect programs. What is didn't say was that it was pretty well impossible to write any programs at all the syntax was so convoluted.

Thumb Down

wow....there's a serious bit of ignorance about China. Define illegitimate for me....ah, I see, they have to follow your definition of a democracy. The UK, US, UN (etc etc) recognise the government of China, so I guess they are in fact legitimate.

There's loads of stuff about China and its government that is not nice...but they're definitely not fascist. In fact there's loads of good stuff that the government does...like invest in infrastructure, move people out of poverty, allow people to build personal wealth (legitimately and illegitimately to be fair). Yeah, they're paranoid...they're also pretty unpleasant to people who don't agree with the system....but an awful lot of people have a much better life now than they did 10 years ago.

I've lived in China for two years now....no guns, no beatings, just a bunch of regular people going about their business in the same way as they would in London or New York....spending money, drinking beer, buying iPhones

FAIL

Then you're doing it wrong!

I use Lotus Notes on Linux every day - I've done this for 2 years. It just works. You install the debs on Ubuntu and there it is. In my experience it is more reliable than the Windows version.
