To Trump and his minions, the truth is what they say it is. Sarah Sanders on the re-tweeted anti-Muslim videos: “I think the president feels that bringing up important issues of our time like extreme violence and terrorism are important to do. That’s what he was doing in that process, and I think he’s going to continue to do that in a number of venues, whether it’s through speeches, whether it’s through Twitter or other social media platforms.”
Trump would absolutely seek totally to control all information concerning his regime if he could get away with it.
You have a president who claims truth is what he says it is, and a free press is the "enemy of the people." On the other hand, you have the Minister of Information Head of the FCC claiming that regulating the free flow of information is desirable. Wow. If this were true, it wouldn't look good for the Land of the Free. I think the word I'm looking for is "Totalitarian."

Donald Trump Jr. is positioning himself as the heir apparent on the Right. Ivanka seems to tip a little more Left, or at least what passes for Left in Trumpistan. We could see Trump vs Trump in '16 or '20. Personally, I'd like to see it turn into an epic battle, like the one at the end of Richard III, the 1995 time-shifted movie version starring Ian McKellen. Unfortunately, we have no venue as visually impressive as Battersea Power Station, so they'll have to shoot it (out) in Trump Tower (elections having been canceled by Executive Order). During TV Prime Time, of course.

DejaVu. Weren't they taken over by Google Groups? Or did someone else get them first? Man, finding Usenet was a real awakening back in the 90s. Then the trolls moved in and wrecked the place. When he first got online in 1997, my father (then aged 77) thought the Internet would lead to world peace. Then I introduced him to soc.culture.iraq.
The only way these problems go away is if the execs know they will feel pain for not ensuring their data is secure. Programmers and managers are the means to that end, but they can't act without support from the top. How do you motivate an executive? Well, fear of incarceration is a good starting point. It sounds like some legislators haven't lost track of their balls and are threatening to write laws leading to that outcome.
Version 1.0 mentioned how the Alt-Right are benefiting from FB and Twitter. So, too, are other evil "social" forces with violent intentions. More and more it seems these implementations are doing more to destroy society than improve it. But the founders and investors are making money, so it's all good. Having lived through the early days of Usenet, I see the ability to monetize hate is all that's changed. Perhaps the greatest accomplishment of the Internet is to hold up a mirror so we can see what a savage mob of degenerate apes humans can be when let off the leash.
You know Google will find a solution, and the researchers won't even get a "So long, and thanks for all the fish" for their efforts. The whole purpose of CAPTCHA stuff isn't really security, is it? Isn't it about teaching AI systems? If they want us to solve their puzzles, they should pay us.
