So the lady bought a Sky decoder and subscription in Greece, and Sky UK have a problem with this..
Not a million miles away from the roaming charges scenarios of yesteryear, which were brought down but are still higher than local calls. Same product (phone call capability), priced differently depending on where you chose to consume it. End result, local contract lengths increased, certain local call package perks were cut or dropped, and the regional variations reduced.
It's a tricky situation because the EU seems to have looked at this purchase with no discrimination on the region of purchase, when the product is priced and sold differently by region.
I can't see how sky or any satellite provider can enforce this without breeching some sort of rights, unless geo-location technology is legally used in authenticating to the satellite network and receiving signal. It looks like the next deal sky sign won't be so rewarding to the PL, and will be THAT little bit more painful for other broadcasters..
