An uncomplicated Buffalo in SOHO: The LinkStation 441D 4-bay NAS box

Captain Scarlet

Oh was expecting Plex to be supported but its not listed on https://plex.tv/downloads

Never seen whether it can be installed manually but with the amount of images for other NAS's you must be able to install yourself, although with the limited ram and single threaded cpu it might be a bit slow, transcoding obviously is out of the question.

Cold Callers

As soon as I hear a click (Or silence to call centre background whine) after I have picked up the phone is slammed down. If its important I'll get a call back.

On the odd occasion where I miss this I try and sell them car insurance (I don't actually do that but its amazing how fast they hang-up afterwards).

HP Services engineer dispatch tool 'broken', say engineers

Captain Scarlet

Engineers running late or not turning up

So they have put a system in that basically is the same as before and every other company that I have had to raise a call for. Delays will always happen, traffic, taking longer on a job than expected (Always happens for my calls, an engineer will be onsite 5x longer as the fix didn't work and needs more work).

HP send out BT <insert business name I can't remember> engineers at the moment so unsure how it will affect us in the UK (Certainly for Desktops and notebooks, unsure of servers etc...).

Captain Scarlet

Re: I am hoping for a stupid TV to become available.

Tried this with Blu Ray and got for a film

Please connect the Blu Ray to the internet to authenticate the disc or something like that.

It was a bad move as nearly half an hour later the Samsung Blu Ray was still updating firmware and apps for stuff I have never used before.

Lenovo CTO: Hey, look around – we're not the only ones with a crapware infection

Captain Scarlet

Re: crapware free

4) Definitely get them on Business HP machines, I have never seen them on consumer versions of their machines. The restore DVD's should give you a choice of two OS's (Although been a few years since I have tried this). On these the slightly older image normally doesn't have any of the HP Utilities installed, the full fat one used to popup with a utility that would let you install what you wanted.

Got my mum a cheap HP laptop at Christmas and actually only removed the crapware I could see (I didn't have a spare USB key at the time to burn the image to a device and reinstall the OS). May have to start checking for anything hidden such as this.

Pull up the Windows 10 duvet and pretend Win8 and Vista were BAD DREAMS

Captain Scarlet

Re: Most hated version of Windows

I only ever saw Windows ME installed from factory, around that time was when a lot of people were buying their first computers.

My own an Evesham Vale machine (So no my experience is not with a dodgy copy) came with 128MB ram, it was unusable and crashed minutes in on its first boot. It was okish with 512MB of ram but a costly upgrade at the time that most people could not afford.

Captain Scarlet
Childcatcher

Most hated version of Windows

Sorry but for me this is still Windows ME.

I've had Vista nag me (Which can be turned off) and Windows 8 is just Windows 8 (Shell Replacements can still customise the experience) but they don't randomly blue screen and require OS rebuilds every 6.2 miliseconds

Yes but becomes annoying for users who use VBA enabled Office docs on a regular basis.

I've simply nicked a bit of VBA code so it will add our managed folders and stop flagging them as I we do want users to have to give permission to run code from files which aren't in our managed folders (Although they would probably run it anyway and then complain).
