As far as I'm concerned, 7 was Vista-next-update-with-a-price-tag. Because Vista was starting to work. And 7 is simply Vista +. M$ just sort of realized that with damage done, the only way to recoup losses was.....rebranding! Yeah! That's the ticket. Worked, too. 9 will be the next version of 8 with a new price tag. Nice. But. What I wanna know is...when in the HELL will MS fix the gd fundamentals of Windows that have never worked well such as Windows Explorer? How the HELL can you explain an operating system with an effing file manager that is so inept that it is not merely inconsistent in application, but crashes. Repeatedly (at least starting with Vista). And while I'm ranting, what the hell is up with that little message when you are downloading something to somewhere that sez something about 'your search'? Dear gawd, it ain't a search, it's a freaking DOWNLOAD! There is SO MUCH stuff that MS needs to fix, but, oh, no! Shiney-shiney is the key!!!!

But, but, didn't Barbie once say "Linux is HARD!" Jest jinkin' witcha. Still, tried a dual boot with Linux (Kubuntu or Xbuntu or some such and yeah it was around ver. 9.someodd, so oldish) and often had Internet connection issues. Which was kinda funny because sometimes I would use Linux when Windows had weird connection problems. [eh, the whole mess was probably a problem with the ISP which has since seemed to have been fixed, Windows-wise at least] One thing that keeps me from Linux is something so damn simple, I don't get why it isn't universal. This a more global form of move/copy which (and you still have to effing hack the registry to do this in Windows) of move to folder/copy to folder. Screw any version of 'Send to'!! This totally supplants it and is easier to boot. Before anyone down votes me, I ask, nay PLEAD, please!, tell me if this can be done in other than Windows. Be gentle. Still learning :) 'Cause I'm definitely going to try and figure out how to boot SOME version of Linux from USB.

Here in Austin, our public radio station KUT has had some incredible DJ's that can spin disparate stuff and yet make it all into a whole. John Aelli, for instance has been known to go directly from opera to punk and have an excellent reason for pairing the things. One DJ once, to celebrate the dog days of summer, did an entire show with songs having something to do with dogs. Yet another reflected on the death of Roy Rogers (Aelli, I believe) by having the whole show dedicated to yodeling which was far, far more interesting than it might sound. Unfortunately, KUT is being more and more run by suits, much to the station's detriment. Still, where are you really going to find DJ's that simply delight in things titled 'Tree Frogs of North America' (yes, exactly what it says.). Or simply go, "WOW! That was so good! Let's just play it again!!"

It's a perception issue. Even if you think that all companies have been affected, you KNOW that Cisco has and that in itself is a huge black mark against the company. A bit like carnival rides. @ sabroni: I will grant you that this does show something, but what exactly, I ain't quite sure what. It seems most likely that people at the top are trying (as ever) to CYA in some fashion that the Japanese are more willing to do than others. It still shows no integrity, at least to my mind. Just that the Japanese are willing to do so. On the other hand, they can be willing to commit seppuku whereas those in the 'West' are not much inclined to do same.

I had a Sony TV. This was when Sony TV's were considered the best (ok, maybe high end for us peons). It was my first major appliance to buy. The design was a bit odd, tho, in that there were mulitple channel buttons that could be dialed to (not programmed as this was before that tech) specific stations. Since I was used to the old-fashioned knobs (with VHS clunkily clicking to one station or another), this was really cool. If you had cable it didn't matter; that would just be one channel. And if you didn't, well, I don't know of any markets that could have exceeded the amounts of channels of the TV. The TV worked great. Top of the line (or at least very near it) picture quality. I loved my Sony. Now....well, now I will actively go out of my way to never, ever throw any money at Sony. You know, or at least should know, that you have effed up royally when the State of Texas (Texas, of all places!!!! I live here so I know what a strange thing that is/was) can and will sue you (and win). That alone should tell you that your corporate structure has been thoroughly hosed. I have wished them the worse ever since that DRM fiasco (pick which one you like, really). And, it seems wishes can come true.

But the file manager, which even MS can't figure out what to call, is different from the browser [can you explicate Windows Explorer?] WE, since I've mentioned it, just sucks big time. And this is, ya know, sorta what an OS is supposed to do in the first place [/rant]
