Re: Detailed Control of Smartphone app permissions is seriously needed

That's right - google is lesser of two evils. I'd rather have google reading my credentials than some other crooks.

Re: Detailed Control of Smartphone app permissions is seriously needed

The only problem I have with all these custom ROMs, is that you have to trust them, that there isn't any trojan already sending all the sensitive data back to the base.

Google should incorporate these features in their codebase, but I doubt they ever will.

money

Commercial TV stations earn most of the money from advertising. Thanks to Aereo their broadcast can reach more people, hence their advertising revenue should benefit from it.

But Aereo is making money out of it and broadcasters don't get a cut. So screw bigger reach and bigger ad market, we're going to destroy you, unless you pay us!

Re: wi-fi providers their own worst enemy

Solution could be as simple as printing QR code on receipts, that point to local activation urls. Once code is scanned, page opens and wi-fi session activates itself. And for people with laptops - the usual method will suffice.

Virgin tempts Brits with fee-free TiVo

guess we know who the lucky winners will be

The majority picks will be for customers on cheaper TV packages to lure them to upgrade to XL.

I know that TiVo offers more services than just better EPG compared to standard virgin's, but is it really worth extra £10/month or so? Not for me.

Recently virgin's been trying hard to squeeze more from their customers. Even if you decline any extras the bill seems to go up every 4-6 months.

reality check

It's so sad to see how people nowadays are forced to accept these ridiculous ToS which only serve wallets of corporations and not their customers. And that's not limited to FREE services.

"Unlimited" is "very limited" in their dictionaries. They can terminate services they provide to their customers without any reason and not be accountable for. And so on. How long before our salaries will go straight to these companies first, then they'll just give us some pocket money or store credit, so we can make it to the next month.

We need a wakeup call.
