They will delete it completely.... you can either "deactivate" or "delete" you are in current state of "deactivated" its invisible to all but FB computers; were you to decide to reactivate it you would find it exactly as you left it, if you see what I mean. If you delete it , its gone. Well that's what they say anyway.
This is one of my bugbears
caller : can I take some details for data protection please?
me: You rang me.... why don't you tell me who you want and I'll tell you if you're correct
caller: I'm afraid I can't give out that information
Me: Oh well...
Caller: So if I could just take your name ?
me: You rang me.....
Caller : I can give you another number to call
me: You rang me, why would I ring the other number you've given me?
So on and so forth.
There's also the birthday variation...
caller : can I take your DOB please?
me: you rang me, why don't you tell me what you've got and I'll confirm if its right or wrong
caller: I'm not allowed.... blah blah blah
I almost feel sorry for them TBH, they're just trying to do their jobs
I lived under the flight path into heathrow when I was growing up I loved watching all the aircraft following the line of the A4 into the airport, Jumbo's used to feel so much lower than everything else because of their size.
I'd never flownon a jumbo until a trip to Chicago about 15 years ago and I've not been on one since. I did how ever get to play a casualty and slide down the emergency chute while taking part in an emergency drill at Heathrow.
I also got to play with the foam gun of a fire truck :D
"But try explaining it to the average user"
Quite rightly the average user doesn't give a toss about that because they just want to make calls, plays some games, surf the internet. They really don't give a stuff about the things that excise people like you.
Soz but that's the truth I'm sure you'll get over it.
"In my experience having children didn't make me a special person who is more important than others and nor did it stop my legs from working."
It's got more to do with the size of the spaces. I'm quite happy for the P&C spaces to have the room to swing those huge 4x4 doors wide open with gay abandon as the littleuns inside are wont to do; that way there is no danger to my car's bodywork.
And of course I know you're superhuman and it doesn't apply to you and yours but the children of lesser mortals have been known to "slip the leash" as it were and simply throw their arms and legs about without due regard to their surroundings, having the P&C spaces gives me an opportunity to locate the likelihood of finding myself with a new bonnet ornament and behave appropriately with ease.
You know, speaking as someone that has no children that is.
@Known Hero
My first flight was on a Dan Air, I think it may have been a trident.. Like you I went to the cockpit and was shown how , then allowed to bank the aircraft using the auto pilot controls, I over did it a bit nad teh aircraft banked quite hard.... I got a few "paddington hard stares" on the way back to my seat :D
even today, some 40 odd years later I still want to go in the cockpit of every aircraft I get on :(
"yeah, the problem with the original show was that Robot A might be destroyed on its first round, and unable to compete. Why is this an issue? Because if one accepts a Rock-Paper-Scissors-lizard-spock scenario as plausible, it makes competitor's fate luck of the draw."
FTFY
You're welcome.
As a keen amateur 'tog I share your pain my solution is thus....
camera-> PC -> NAS (Mirrored discs) -> BluRay Discs -> Off site
I create bluray images and then burn them to actual discs, usually 2 copies. One set lives at my mums house and one set lives at a mates house. They get a new disc every month. It takes a little time once a month to create/burn/distribute but I guess its worth it other wise I wouldn't.
And No I have no experience of m-disc
2) Better power per litre leads to phenomenal fuel economy. 44mpg for mixed use for a 1.6 engine would be impossible for a petrol
TBF modern petrol engines are almost up there
My last car had a 1.2 ltr engine and that managed 48MPG, My current car is a 1.4 turbo and it manages 39 mpg on average...I could probably improve that by changing my driving style significantly. itts also got 170 BHP and 0-60 of around 6 secs but I rarely drive it like I stole it because then the MPG can get down to single figures but its certainly fun to do occasionally :D
"There is maybe even an upside for VW, turning a disaster into a profit"
I'm not sure that VW would ever get away with selling someone a new CC at anything approaching a retail price; particularly in a society as litigious as the US of A, if indeed they are able charge for them at all.
"So what do I need a watch for?"
A friend of mine has a watch obsession... he's always showing me pictures of watches, "Isn't it pretty?!?! Such a pretty watch! " (they always look the same to me) telling me how this one is waterproof down to 250,mtrs!!!!! I always ask if he's taken up scuba diving.... "Look at this one!" he'll enthuse pilots use these... or this one! it costs several thousand pounds and will *never* lose value or time.
I show him my fitbit and ask what those watches do that my fitbit doesn't?
of course the real irony is that he is *never* on time for anything. ever.
I really don't get the whole "shut yor mouf and look at my watch!" mentatlity
For a long time... at least 7 or 8 years... a visit to The Register was a daily event in my working life but I find that I can go days without visiting now because its full of the same stuff that all the other sites are.
I found I missed the distinctly British feel/humour to the place. Its become a generic / US feeling place these days. shame.
Still if the powers that be feel the need to change *shrug* and at least you've explained your reasoning, I guess its working for you otherwise you wouldn't have legitimized it with an announcement some two months after the changes had been made.
I'll still dip in and out but I expect there will be fewer and fewer visits because I rarely find 1 article per visit to read these days.
Good luck!
Actually I think there are many parallels between Tolkien and Moffat... they both have some great ideas and stories but often fail to tell the story in an entertaining way, afte rall they both have their Tom Bombadil moments.
I think its time to stop treating Dr who as "High Art" it isn't, it never was and it never will be. The two things that make it mostly unwatchable for me these days.
1) The OTT and in your face PCness of the show
2) The interminable fanwank its become.
The problem is that there is a (possibly quite large) section of society that will hear her words and think "Argh! the sky is falling!" and suddenly the government has the figleaf it requires because the chattering classes are all screaming "yes! surveil me 24./7 to keep me nice and safe"
I hate the way politicians jump on any kind of terrorist act and use it as a way of leveraging more power for themselves, they don't seem to realise they are doing the terrorists job for them... well, its more accurate to say they know and don't care.
"France was attacked by IS in retribution for France's efforts in fighting the IS in Syria."
Actually, I think it's as much to do with Algeria and the massive ghettos on the outskirts of Paris as is it to do with IS. From IS's pov they simply found very fertile ground.
BUT this isn't really the correct forum for that discussion.
I'm afraid to say that I found Dr Who as shit as I ever have.... I don't watch very often for that reason. I also find the ham fisted BBC PCness annoying in the extreme.
TBH I don't have too much of a problem with GCHQ and chums having access to this kind of information, slightly more concerns about plod but I really can see no reason why my local council need this information. Is it in case I'm visiting a website to learn how to avoid their increasingly stupid parking regs?
