Cats understand the laws of physics, researchers claim

IsJustabloke
Facepalm

hmmmm

"This study may be viewed as evidence for cats having a rudimentary understanding of gravity."

It *may* be viewed that way but only by idiots.

Each time I read about a "scientist" devising an experiment involving cats, its clear to me that the scientist involved has never actually spent any time with a cat

RE Nuisance lawsuit, I wonder whose funding it.

Garmin... ;)

I have a Fitbit blaze and I wouldn't trust the HR monitor as anything other than an indication that I have a heart rate. Fitbit themselves say that it loses accuracy as the workout becomes more vigorous.

I don't expect it to be medically accurate and for my purposes its good enough. It increases as I exercise and decreases when I rest. The range is what's important for me. If it tells me my resting heart rate is circa 62/63 pretty much all the time and then suddenly starts reporting it as 50 then that would ring a bell, likewise the upper end. If it suddenly peaks beyond the kind of number I'm used to seeing then it's a "hmmm" moment.

when we weight ourselves,we do it on the same machine at the same time in the same way because we understand the numbers in relation to the previous numbers.

None of this is rocket science.

I have no problem...

... with the licence per se but I do think that iPlayer should be restricted to "authorised users" *every* other service has an "authorised user" interface. I can't just fire up Amazon and watch their stuff for free just because it happens to be an online streaming service. Why should I or anyone be able to do so with the iplayer? I pay for a licence, I'm already authenticated, all iPlayer has to do is ask me to prove it.

Re: That's quite a pro-vaping article.

re "I'm guessing you've never set about quitting smoking."

Its not hard, you just stop. If you really want to quit smoking then you will and all you have to do is stop.

The fact is most people who say they want to give up don't really want to and so they find it difficult or look for reasons why they failed.

as far as I can see, vaping is simply swapping one addiction delivery method for another but it is at least a healthier way of getting a fix. Mind you teh down side is that most people sucking on a vape' don't seem to realize just how silly they look :D

I *really* don't understand why Sony are all but totally ignored by Journos. My Z1 is a fantastic phone... solid reliable, excellent battery life. Its been updated three times by Sony (Although I doubt I'll get any more :( ) water/dust proof long before anyone else... I had a battery problem, Sony collected / fixed and returned the phone in a week, all under warranty. Good looking phone, no bloatware, great camera. Really it's just plus points.

Re: Er... NO!!!! @stizzleswick

You are not the target user when the op stated that it should be "more windows like"

Typically you are assuming that all users want to "fiddle" with their installations and that is a wrong assumption.

The vast majority of users want to install something and do "stuff" because that is how the vast majority of users use their PC's. It really doesn't matter how much you wish it were oherwise, it isn't and never will be, get over it.

For the vast majority of users their experience is with windows and they don't really care one way or the other all they want is to "do stuff" within an environment they mostly recognise.

Re: Oh goodness how awful @David Dawson

It's called "Virtue signalling" and is very much a modern phenomenon . Its a product of the "social media" generation although here in the UK at least, you could say that it all began with the death of Diana.

People scrabble to indicate to others just what a lovely, nice person they are by the simple expedient of claiming sympathy for complete strangers ( or people they may *think* they know vicariously) and of course this makes them a better, nicer person then *you* because if you now say "I have sympathy for x" you're simply following their lead. There was a very interesting article about it in The Spectator late last year.

I have a question....

battery... how long will it last on this phone? Not very long I imagine.

Why can Sony make a phone that has a battery that can last the thick end of two days between charges but no other bugger can? And why do reviewers *never* mention how good Sony's are in this regard when reviewing other mobeys ?

Just recently I had reason to have both a sammy s4 and my xperia z1 side by side. I do all the normal things with my Sony, make a call or two, bit of browsing, the odd email...play music and games.

After half a day my sony reads 92% , the sammy? bearing in mind that all it had done all morning was sit on my desk.... 86%

Are they using special electricity generated from unicorn poo that's accessed via Nicad fairy's? Why can no other manufacturer achieve this?

Its nice to have a phone that doesn't need to be tethered to a charger while all I do is sit at my desk all day if I want to be able to use it on the way home from work.

My Z1 recently developed a battery fault and I needed tosend it away to Sony for repair (under warranty) I picked up a cheap 2nd hand (open box rather than "used") S4, to say it was a horrible, laggy pile of poo burdened with nasty Samsung duplication would be an understatement. I chose an S4 because I'd previously owned and liked a s2 so an s4 seemed like a bit of a no brainer.

I hated it and was so relieved to get my Sony back.

The secret to giving up the toe rags...

.. is A) You actually must want to give up, most people seem to do it because they feel its the right thing to do / are being nagged / think its too pricey rather than because they want to.

and B) Just stop. No patches, no E-Cigs / vaping, no binge eating. Simply stop.

I guarantee that anyone who fulfills both of these criteria will give up for good.

I know 9 people myself included that stopped using this "method"

People who use e-cigs have simply swapped one addiction for another (albeit a less harmful to the health one)

There's nothing wrong with the snappers on a lot of modern mobeys but they are not serious cameras and no amount of extra dodads will change that. (notable exception Sony phones, they at least have a pedigree in as much that Sony do make decent cameras and are the only phones that still have a dedicated shutter button I think)
