Florida man might just stick it to HP for injecting sneaky DRM update into his printers that rejected non-HP ink

"I don't believe that if printers' price reflected their true cost"

Then you're wrong because I have two canon printers that are exactly that.

I paid a proper price for them and the inks are reasonably priced.

Re: I expect I'll get a ton of downvotes BUT

@Aristotles slow and dimwitted horse

I guess you do think a printer *really* costs 35 quid.

Printers are sold at a loss because consumers won't pay 100's for them. If they then buy the ink at the actual cost how is that company supposed to make money and survive?

I don't understand why *you* find that such a difficult concept to understand.

When you buy a printer at something approaching the true cost of the printer then inks are much more reasonable in price. It really is that simple.

I expect I'll get a ton of downvotes BUT

consumers only have themselves to blame for this situation. If they were more willing to pay the true cost of a printer then ink would be commensurately cheaper. It really is that simple.

Does "Florida man" or indeed anyone else really believe that the printer cost 35 quid?

I carry no torch for HP or their behaviour but they can't give away a printer and then giveaway the ink it's just not feasible and while I do agree that to deliberately break something a consumer has paid for is utterly wrong, I understand why they would try.

I have two canon printers, one was several hundred pounds, the other just 200 , the ink costs for both are pretty reasonable by that standard.

sorry but that's the truth of it.

Gentry Lee was / is an appallingly bad writer. Every single book is in essence the same, shockingly bad "Romance novel" set in a Sci Fi universe.

"Take your stuff to the tip. Do 'green'. That's the public message. What they don't tell you, is how big a business it is."

My local tip has a corner reserved for stuff that could be reused. Twice a day a van and trailer rock up and load all the stuff from the corner. It's all taken to the HUGE recycling center down the road and sold on to whoever wants it from a "re-use" shop. The money raised is used to refurbish bicycles which are in turn sold to needy locals at a nominal cost plus £5. Works really well and everyone wins. The nominal fiver is used to run the van and trailer.

The scheme was put in place by workers at the tips who got fed up with "What can I do with this? seems a shame to dump it" they all take turns running the "shop" and the local authority turn a blind eye to the whole thing because the only response they have is to stop it but didn't want to .

manual mode...

I have a P20 Pro and because I often have it in places I wouldn't be allowed to take my DSLR (such as gigs) I'm often reduced to using it for pictures. I tend to shoot in manual mode with it, which gives me a RAW file and then process using LR. The results are pretty good and plenty good enough for Instagram or web use. It also gives reasonable 6*4 prints. Obviously, it can't compete with my Canon but then I wouldn't expect it to.

I have played with the "night mode" which is essentially a multi exposure and I agree it does tend to overexpose (although less so if there's no bright light source) but have found if you back the exposure off in LR the results are excellent.

I can't see a compelling reason for buying a P30 though.

The problem with looking at pictures taken using different cameras is that it's all very subjective. I often look at the pictures my mate's Apple produces and I find them oversaturated whereas he loves them and finds mine a bit washed out.

"This could be used to make Americans speak proper English again"

The dialect of English they speak is less "evolved" than our own version so in some respects it could be said they speak a purer form of the language than we ourselves do.

While we're on the subject "-ize" versus "-ise" both are correct / acceptable and in actual fact we were using the "-ize" construct long before it became associated as being "American Spelling".

Nothing that is pikey related is in any way shape or form "admirable" , I live in a town that is like fucking catnip to them and they are without fear of contradiction the most unpleasant people it's been my misfortune to stumble across. They are a crime wave, they are violent, they intimidate normal people just trying to go about their business. The women are as bad as the men and when they arrive in any pub en mass pretty much everyone else leaves (generally for their own safety) and more often than not the night will end with the publican having no choice but to call the police.

I was once followed into a pub by several pikeys , when the barman asked me what I wanted to drink the pikeys immediately kicked off because they wanted to be served first, threatening all and sundry and me in particular.

In short they are a scourge.
