"or under 18, the legal drinking age in the UK"

Not quite true, children over the age of 5 can consume alcohol with parental supervision, when they get to 16 they can drink wine, beer or cider in licensed premises if it's bought by an adult and is served with food. When they are 18 they can buy any form of booze they want.

Defence? Of course it is - not

Not true with software, if he created it he would have intermediate builds, maybe a few test routines, lots of documentation, possibly a flow chart or two, various code that failed and basically his archives or project management software should provide a history of code from an empty project to the finished item.

Alternatively when someone creates something by copying existing work then little if any of this would exist.

In order for a third party to prove plagiarism they would need access to his code to compare it with the alleged source.

I know nothing about the specifics of this case and have no opinion either way, I’m just pointing out that it not hard to disprove plagiarism in software design.

Gaffer taps at sub zero?

You have tested your gaffer tape at low temperatures?

Depending upon who made the tape, both the tape and the adhesive can get very brittle at extremes of temerature.

Falklands, the musical

Sort of been done already, by Steve Bell the Guardian cartoonist and a cast of penguins.

It was noted for a massive heap of penguin guano called "Paramount", which explained Thatchers quote: "the interests of the Falkland islanders are paramount"

MDMA Deaths - I think not!

There has not been a single death due to MDMA alone, people have died from MDMA and drinking a bottle of vodka, or MDMA and a gallon of water, or MDMA and a car, there is always more than just MDMA but they are always reported as "ecstasy/MDMA deaths".

The place for creationism in school

Of course there's a place for Creationism in science lessons, it could go like this:

Student: Teach, my mommy told me that living things are too complicated to develop by chance and evolution is only a theory.

Teacher: Well Johnny some people do have that opinion and class do we know what we call people who think that

Class (except Johnny): MORONS!

Teacher: That's right class.

Re: As A Long Time Fan...

"I've been watching it since the first episode in 1964 (or was it '63)"

November 23rd 1963 was when the first episode (An Unearthly Child) was broadcast. Some minor political figure was shot in Dallas on the same day, but that was nowhere near as important as the start of the Doctor.

MIT plans to roll out 'folding' car

Good idea, but.....

With the "last back, first out" method of stacking, the cars at the front will seldom get fully charged, whilst the ones at the back will hardly ever be used.

What they need is a "last back, last out" methodology where all the cars get a chance to recharge fully and all get roughly equal usage.

So a good idea but the stacking method is fatally flawed, you need to return to one end of the stack but remove from the other end or have the battery pack removed when stacking and a fully charged one inserted.

Can we be detected?

About our broadcasts, to anyone a huge distance away it would be tricky to differentiate the signals from noise because for example when the BBC Crystal Palace transmitter was broadcasting Dad's Army the same frequency was being used all over the planet for different programs, at any point on the surface you only recieve the signal from the nearest transmitter but at several light years out all the transmitters are equidistant so the signals would be a random like mush.

Now we are getting quieter in the radio wavelengths as broadband & DBS replace broadcasting, soon we will be undetectable at a distance.
