Umm... I'm no mathematician, but this seems just a touch on the dense side, unless El Reg uses some whopping big sugar cubes.

For a sugar cube 1cm^3 to weigh that much, it'd have the same density as titanium.

So it can recover from one anomolously hot summer. Hooray! How about a sequence of hot summers?

Also, please remember that it isn't the area of ice cover that counts, it's the volume. Wide thin sheets of sea ice are much more vulnerable than smaller, thicker sheets.
