Google datacenters use 'a quarter of all water' in one US city

Re: Cost

I know that Oregon is more temperate than they want anyone to know. But waste heat can generate power and run heating systems. They are missing a trick here (probably why Google are investing) to get a secondary kick from the waste energy...

Cool

Very impressive thinking going on here and it will be really interesting to see what it delivers benchmark wise with the new recompiled applications. It nice to see some non-Intel ideas out there if only to keep them sharpe.

BTW did anyone else enjoy " automagically identifying loops" I don't know or care whether it was a mistake it made me smile.

'Green' Apple: We've smudged a bit off our carbon footprint

Promoting disposable tech is not green

Data centres running on sustainable resources is brilliant and commendable but designing products that sell millions of units which are essentially disposable is not. By disposable I mean that when you grow out of them you can't upgrade them, you have to buy a bigger better one. I like Apple kit but I don't think that is right.

Ho, ho, HOLY CR*P, ebuyer! Etailer rates staff on returns REJECTED

Merry Xmas eBuyer

Use of facebook excepted I have always found eBuyer to provide great service - including dealing with more than one return. It is a shame to see people get on their backs for a charity event.

Thumb Up

Wow really impressive

Great idea. Not only is it well shot, inspiring stuff, it makes the space station cool. Chris has spent his time on the ISS send cool message after cool message from the Aussie wild fires to the water experiment.

Well done.

Microsoft Xbox exec quits after ENRAGING the INTERWEBS

HOW can those tweets be separated from his role?

Sorry I have sympathy for people being hounded to quit because they have made a silly comment on twitter without knowing better. But Adam Orth should have known better (I assume he does now or maybe he is just bewildered). Tech company execs should realise that what they post is closely examined in the context of their role by the community they cultivate to promote their goods.

Remember Steve Jobs on the iPhone 4 antenna issue? He only got away with that because of who he was but there were a lot of people thinking what IS he doing getting involved.

London Stock Exchange investigates IT 'sabotage'

NotaFanboi
WTF?

Why mention sabotage?

It seems a bit mad to call this sabotage. It has everyone talking about the incident (including main stream newspapers) and focuses attention on the roll out. Unless of course this is the objective.

Me?

I would be holding something shiny up as a distraction while working on a low profile problem-free roll out. Once it is all done then you shout from the roof tops about the really fast system you have just implemented.
