Anyone else feel a MagSafe patent case coming up?

No other office apps and no other browsers. I'm surprised the EU competition committee haven't said something yet.

Err... this is an article about the iPad.

Try and stay on topic. Who cares about a white iPhone? Really? Fanboi posers maybe.

(I have a white 3G after all)

err... missed the obvious...

So you recommend a £600 Acer. Yet wit educational discount you can get a MacBook for £690 and probably beat that £600 price point if you go for a refurb.

Seriously, I know what the best selling notebook among students will be this year (and every year) and it doesn't run Windows...

Thumb Down

I don't agree I'm afraid

Having tried these cans I must say I didn't want to buy them at all. They look fancy but because of their design the shape of the earpads just didn't quite feel right. The leather is down to personal taste but I just find it gets hot and sweaty and nasty really quickly. (although I may just have sweaty ears, yeurgh!).

The sound is nice but nothing to write home about at this price point. For £250 I'd recommend either Shure SE315 IEMs if you're out and about or a pair of Grado SR225i cans if you're listening at home (the Grados particularly if you like the bassier, warmer sound).

Either set of headphones will also leave you enough spare from £250 to buy a half decent headphone amp which will drastically improve the sound compared to going further up the headphone pecking order without an amp.

This is alsothe same price as the Sennheiser HD650 and the B&Ws get no where near these excellent cans. Not even close. Decent enough 'phones from B&W but certainly not the class-leaders the reviewer seems to think and certainly not at this price point.

exactly

Further, for the cost of doing that Leicester Square to Covent Garden tube journey you can have the key AND a full days access. Or for the cost of 2 singles/a day travelcard (£8) you can have the key and a whole week's access.

(For those not in the know Covent Garden to Leicester Square is statistically the most popular journey on the underground and yet quicker to do on foot - its 0.16 miles. Londoners generally take great pleasure in laughing at this statistic and then saying an expletive adjective followed by the word "tourists").

The key takes less than a working week to get to you and registering it is easy online or by phone. I had an issue with my key and my call (at 6pm) was answered straight away and the problem was fixed within 5 minutes; they even avoided sending me out a new key, despite this being the easy solution for them, because the operator said she didn't want to stop me using it over the bank holiday weekend.

Genuinely an excellent idea and (besides not anticipating the demand, as shown in this story) pretty well executed. Hopefully the fact that the issues have been created by the popularity of the scheme will drive its expansion!

Paris - because of velib obviously.

@Atheist AC

@AC - are you distancing yourself from "extrememist atheists"? If we are all a bunch of indefinable entities experiencing unconnected, unintelligable, bare facts that therefore negate the possibility of any kind of interconnection, be that any kind of communication or relationship as true atheism must conclude then actions such as those atrocities committed by extremists are no more "wrong" or "right" than any other action. A car-bombing in Iraq is just as praiseworthy as volunteering to take an elderly neighbour to the shops (and just as despicable). Not what you were agreeing with? That's where a philosophy devoid of input from an external entity naturally leads.

If you go for a "collective conciousness", make yourself god or any other fudge you [a] were in a cave without the last 100 years of philosophical thought (post-structuralism/post-modernism anyone) and [b] just make theory this your god instead. There's still an external entity and/or yourself which can just as validly be called a god though, hence no "atheism" just your own self-serving version of theism

"they should make a stand and become an atheist like many of us supposedly Christian westerners have done."

Really? Made a stand, eh? Look at the newspapers/magazines/web. People have plenty of gods still; money, fame, ecology, sex, influence, power. Take your pick, just don't pretend the west is a place without as many gods.

(and yes, before you even ask, I'm a fully-paid-up, card-carrying, evangelical christian and no, I don't mind people knowing).

Sony!?!

You must be joking. In my (albeit outdated) experience using the Sony software that comes with their players (anyone rember SonicStage with Network MiniDisc?) you'll have ripped off your ears in frustration before you get around to listening to any music. That's quite detrimental to percieved sound quality I understand.

If you're really worried about the sound quality (like I am) then you know that actually the lineout signal that you can take from the dock connector (I've soldered up my own lead) is actually up there with some of the best when fed into a reasonable headphone amp.

If you want the pinout for the lineout google for it and go the the pinouts.ru link. Off the shelf products are also available for the less solderly-minded.

Paris - because she too sure has made herself a homebrew miniture-pentode headphone amp with a dock connector...
