Nah probably just work at the reg.
They don't seem to bother blogging or apologizing when their marketing dept does the exact same thing.

My first VGA monitor was really cheap. When i got home i noticed some writing on the screen, with some other ascii characters for decoration around it. It was a square repeating itself over and over down the screen with the fabled words(or rather similar):
"This screensaver has started to protect your screen from damage"
Oh yeah, gotta agree with the compaq rack keyboards. While not a mechanical, i still use the old compaq desktop keyboard KB9860 , which has a very similar feel to those rack keyboards. I can't use another keyboard, when this one finally goes again, i find em on ebay or amazon with the model number. Also the mouse, the logitech mouseman wheel M-CW47 big ergonomic, comfortable and has a 'back' button . PS/2 rules. :)
chromecast is just the first of many for those who haven't heard yet. For those who have heard (which should be all of you reading this) spend a leetle more, rk3188 (up to 1.8ghz quad core). enjoy. ebay or amazon, course it ships with droid, but linux compat is on the up and up for rockchips, a month after i emailed them (to the day) they released some linux code. whoot.
nice work.
which phones work atm?
when will tmobile / orange EE actually be selling 4g, still nothing on their website
how will this affect three, who have boldy gone into the 'unlimited' but not 'tethered'(£5 add on) data arena.
From literally £10 a month, (100 mins, some texts) you get unlimited internet. Which is good.
note i'm on voda, have been for years, and am about to switch to three.
So, no one notices microsoft's idiomatic tendencies at work here?
They created their own browser to lock people into windows.
And it WORKED.
.APPLAUSE.
How is that microsoft can have a compatibility mode to run windows 95 apps, yet somehow getting IE9 to run them is 'impossible'. Or simply recompiling ie7 on windblows 7.
.APPLAUSE.
Stupid is. Stupid does.
Once turned on the technology would stop the "if you continue we assume Yes"
"OH BTW we couldn't be asked to code in a NO button, please click this long winded Read about how we track you button to turn this feature off"
And ofc the sentence would be a hell of a lot shorter if sites like El Reg had already coded in a NO button. I'm NOT fine with this. DUH.
But tech savy readers wouldn't be bothered by that lameness.
Keep up biting, err chewing, i guess tickling maybe.
Viewpoint Media Player is a very viral dvd player that comes packed onto loads of DVD movies, and it installs itself without asking.
I have seen XP come to a crawl just because of this stupid thing, not on my XP build tho, i disabled those Security flaws for my customers over 2 years ago. I get the occasional person I have to explain to double click on my computer. Apart from that and ofc the stupid 3g sticks and their stupid modeswitch.
I wouldn't mind, it's just another of the 500 to 1000+ registry entries that are wrong by default. How else are the MCP's going to make any money? ::)
So IRONY. IRONY. IRONY. go on say it again.
Now to all the folk who've been with the US gov on this, who are saying that this stuff should be leaked on assange, his bail address should be given out. To you people who are reading this.
You are AGREEING WITH ASSANGE.
You are AGREEING that the information should be free and open.
Welcome to the free world, i'm with ya.
Oh the IRONY.
And to the people leaking it, to the judges who condone the current behaviour. You are simply proving his case.
Chew on that for while.
That american scientists still have little or no idea how to use the tesla tech they are sitting on. Maybe one day they can share what they have classified (hmm wikileaks could do it mebe jaja). And the rest of the world could explain to them how it works. Before they blow themselves up with it.
“C = E/R”
Maybe one day.
The Times They Are A-changin'
Biggest risk they've taken so far is actually Vista, and that paid off so well.
Their idea of a risk was use all the computers memory for the OS.
All that Gloss.
Even 7, when you turn off the useless crap, can do 300megs of ram. That aint bad, and if the services and bumf where coded correctly you should not go over 4/5max. 7 is 7 .
So at least another 6 months until 7 works correctly. Businesses implement test in the mean time, then rollout, then windows 8 comes out.
Sounds very familar to the nt4 > 2k push. They don't innovate, they just keep forcing the same old manure, and you keep eating it. Funneh.
Why do El Reg no longer sink their teeth in.
If memory alone serves correctly, this is a little different to the usual story.
This is not a simple, you used an idea I patented.
Microsoft had access to the source code for this, then they refused to buy it, then they stole the software. I mean it's how the company began, and it's how they will carry on.
But i don't want to make these points. El Reg used to it properly.
Sigh.
Total Commander
I would have liked to have known how this held up.
With the synchronization feature it would have taken a while, but i'm sure you'd end up with a perfect working sync, and really good reports for failures etc.
How can 50 comments miss the one tool that's capable of this that's been running for years ? (1993 - same time as winrar.)
Do IT people even read this site anymore. Let alone write for it.
El Reg never made such a hullabaloo when i sent the same wondrous problem with using THEREGISTER as my home page. Why? FLASH ADS.
Would they listen, did they even report it? NO
In fact, with all these quips from apple about flash posted here, it's fun to note at the time that EL Reg though that Flash worked fine, and it was obviously a problem with the 3 different pc's i was using.
funny how things go innit.
Paris for sheer wonderous humor.
Google to cash in on free ubuntu
Your just thinking, "oh OK, yeah i see where you coming from. Redhat Ubuntu debian et al have missed a huge cash puppy that google can cash in on from tablets to pc's. ( = iphone store / steam)
But your missing the real point here, unlike other companies who made the road google is using, they did not bite into the 'capitalism bug' with OSS software, you do not, as many have done, need to buy out the main company behind the software. (ie from googles point of view a company like Xandros would look very appealing)
(There are some exceptions here, but lets go with the MASS percentage of sheer stupidy .)
And on another related side note, while google does not seem to treating the OSS community rather well, (various technical aspects to android and chrome etc) they have caused a huge surge in developers on Linux to create free AND commercial software.
It is just possible that google could make 2011 the year corporate applications finally start coming to linux 'en mass'. Here's hoping.
btw, incase you think i'm some kind of fanboy, i'll point out that i've liked google less and less over the years, if microsoft is the devil, google is just sheer evil. :)
