Re: have we learned nothing from wipo ?

13th was deliberately crafted with that exception. 13th + forced internships + reneging on 40 acres and a mule meant nothing changed. Union won the battle but lost the war, see lost cause, large % of southern people believe the war was not about slavery.

Re: Proof that 100% Global Profits fines are needed

Problem is that people with the billions set the fine amount, you don't and never will.

Re: Lessons clearly not learned here

It's a bit refreshing for them to come out to just say it. Technically they are correct, in a capitalistic system they did nothing wrong.

Would have been nice to have them do this earlier since it might have effected change but at this point its way too late in the game for the rules to change. So all it's really good for is hearing them say the truth, which is kinda nice, but not worth much else since we're way past the point where the truth could lead to any meaningful change.

Big Brother

Anything that reduces copyright protections is good with me

The system of copyright/patent/trademarks have been so heavily abused and co-opted by corporations that at this point anything that reduces them is fine with me. Unfortunately once corps find a way to monetize AI gen'd work this decision will likely be reversed.

Re: The sound of Perseverance

I'd hardly call it recent past. Identity cannot exist without narrative, narrative beats knowledge has existed since we've become self-aware. That doesn't mean knowledge isn't important, but it's not a required component in order to live minute to minute, so narrative will almost always win out when there is a conflict.

Re: Fake PII FTW.

Fake PII is all well and good, until you run into a website where providing personal information is the key to getting it to work properly, for example LinkedIn, Experian, etc.

Re: When will we

The 10 days line is marketing. No way in hell they would drop such a hammer on their flagship tech companies. You can rest assured all companies were not only notified ahead of time, but that they had a working replacement in place and ready to roll out by the time the announcement was made public.

That said, I too want :(

Re: Obvious Evidence of Fraud

After seeing that it took 3-4 years to catch I was expecting some sort embezzlement mastermind, but after reading I have to agree its insane that he wasn't caught right out the gate. Its not even low-hanging fruit, it already fell off the tree and has been rotting for months.

Kids and the web latest: 'Won't somebody please think of the children!' US Congresscritters plead

won't someone think of the children!

This may be the first time in my life I've ever used that term and actually backed what was being proposed.

Yes I'd like to have some of those options as well (minus the whole someone else deciding to delete everything for me), but I'll be more than happy to have some of the population get it versus none. Especially considering that children have no feasible way of understanding the consequences of handing over their data.
