It's the end of Pure Space Science Research as we know it, Jim.
It may seem like a good idea to help reduce costs, but the main point of NASA is pure science/space research. A closer tie to the US military will inevitably mean that the experiements will have to produce some tangible and useful result. Not to say that pure science research doesn't produce tangible results, by the way...
Re the BBC"Big Bang Machine": my 6 year old daughter was upset yesterday, and didn't want to go to school as she thought the world was going to end. We had to tell her a little white lie that the experiment had already happened. Her response was "Oh yes, I remember, everything went small". Perhaps she knows something we don't!?!
I don't feel I know you well enough to call you Arthur, so will use Mr Clarke instead.
Very shocked to hear this news, but you've had a good innings, as my parents would say.
