US lawmaker blames bicycle breath for global warming gas

koncordski
FAIL

Ok i'll bite.

The guy is obviously not quite the full shilling, in effect he's talking about a tax on breathing, which is dumb however you dress it up. And for the various commentards that claim they are 'held up' by cyclists, oh please. If you're driving in town then you're average speed is lower than the fleshy human on the bicycle, he'll beat you from one side of the city to the other, you're occupying a disproportionately large piece of road space to move your arse around, he's not. If you're on a country road, the 10 or 15 seconds you have to 'wait' behind the flashy human on the bicycle adds how much time to your total journey? In a nutshell, if you're going slowly in your car, you're not IN traffic. You ARE traffic.

Apple orders millions of iPhone 5s for September release

Er?

Apple make new handsets, people buy them.

HTC make new handsets, people buy them.

Samsung make new handsets people buy them.

I'm happy to pay for decent build quality personally. My HP elitebook 2530p creaks and squeaks when you pick it up, my MB Pro doesn't.

My Work blackberry keeps shedding bits of plastic and has awful battery life, my iphone doesn't.

Buy what you like.

hardly surprising...

Mummy, mummy, there's a nuclear monster!

koncordski
WTF?

@ smelly socks

Eh, what, are you even reading the same article? The article is about scaremongering and needless media fed panic. I'm not surprised there are rolling blackouts, do you think that the Japanese electricity grid has been unaffected by the MASSIVE EARTHQUAKE followed by an VERY DESTRUCTIVE TSUNAMI?? Remember this is what actually happened and caused massive loss of life, you would think from news reports that Japan suffered a predictable nuclear meltdown about the same time as an unseasonably high tide. The blackouts are because the reactors have been shut down and the transmission grid is also in a less than optimal state. Have a go at lewis, god knows he's got his faults (would F-18's have helped here lewis?? :P ), but make your comments relevant to the article. Prat.

Online ticket company ordered to release data on ticket sellers

koncordski
Thumb Up

Second ticket agencies are the problem..

Touts are fairly grubby but they essentially served a useful function in limited numbers. It's pretty common to arrange to go to a gig/event with a group of friends and have the unreliable mate fail to show up. Offload the ticket to the tout by the door, he sells it on to another group that have had an extra person turn up. Over simplified example I'll admit but pretty much how it worked for years. These second ticketing websites all drink too much of the kool-aid, they claim to be on the side of fans by allowing easy resale of 'unwanted' tickets but they merely solve a problem they alone created. The reason gigs sell out in 5 mins these days has nothing to do with more people suddenly being interested in live music/sport and everything to do with people who have no intention of attending trying to make a quick buck. ViaGoGo, Seatwave etc.. are helping no-one but their VC backers and the sooner legislation is brought in to shut them down the better. Will you ever stop touting, no, but you can knock these guys out of the market and allow people to actually buy tickets for events they want to see.

MythBusters: Savage and Hyneman detonate truthiness

Savage's british accent always makes me laugh....

It's ultimately a fun and engaging show that never takes itself too seriously. The presenters all look like they are having a great laugh and if it gets kids interested in science and engineering then great. Don't bother coming on here with your chemistry degree and dislike of social interaction bitching about how it's not 'real science', it's not supposed to be. Jeez......

Tearful NASA salutes space shuttle Discovery

koncordski
Pint

Really is a shame.

As a child of the 80's (just) the space shuttle seems to define exploration and man's desire to push the boundaries of what was possible, now that it's gone and joined Concorde in museums I hope we can inspire the kids of today. Sadly I fear 'Discovery' may be as grounded as that shuttle. NASA for all it's wastage and faults has given us some great moments over the years, so have a drink on me.

Charlie Sheen explodes onto Twitter

2.5 men is fairly bleh comedy central fodder...

Charlie Sheen however is some kind of hero for the post-modern man. He gets paid millions of dollars for not a lot of work (kudos) and openly admits to holding 72 hour drink & drug fuelled parties with willing and sometimes not so willing (see porn star locked in bathroom) pornstars.

To quote Ron Burgundy, "I've been coming to the same party for 12 years, and in no way is that depressing."

Charlie I salute you and your charming young lady friend.

Turkish groom accidentally sprays wedding guests with bullets

koncordski
FAIL

Still generally hit with lethal force?

Didn't mythbusters do an entire episode to prove that bullets fired vertically or close to it actually tumble back to earth and with nowhere close to lethal force? The only way to maintain lethality was to have the gun fire at a shallow angle so that a ballistic arc maintained the spin of the bullet. Stupid certainly but lethal rarely, losing control of the gun certainly a fail here.
