Re: "Sure, it’s thicker by about HALF A MILLIMETRE, but it’s hard to spot this."

According to specs the new iPad is 0.6 mm (NOT 0.6 cm) thicker. The dimensions changed from 8.8 mm to 9.4 mm (9.4 mm - 8.8 mm = 0.6 mm; i.e. less than a millimetre in extra thickness).

O2 blocking harmless sites

So I am a long-term O2 customer. Today I click on an email link in my smartphone email to take me to a completely harmless, bog-standard dating service and up pops the Age-Verification rubbish. So I reluctantly hand over my details to this company I've never heard of and get an SMS letting me know I've been verified.

Now that's wonderful - except it still won't connect. I am re-directed to O2's woeful wap.o2.co.uk page when I click the link. So the age verification process still doesn't stop O2 re-writing your links and actually appears to not work.

Good job O2 - this is why people wish mobile operators become dumb pipes.

Not as bad as I'd feared

I have a Direct Debit subscription to The Economist. Thankfully the T&Cs mean that I will continue to be able to use the app but still be able to pay directly to The Economist so that they get all the money.

I would hate to lose the Economist app but I would stop using it instantly if I was forced to pay through iTunes such that all of the subscription fee did not go to The Economist.

Fantastic - also available as an iPhone app

Just downloaded the app (also available for the iPhone) and my first impressions are that it's excellent.

Hello sock puppet

I'm afraid that whether a representative of MS is the most credible source of information is exactly the point. And your email sounds to me like an apologist for MS hiding behind a personal attack.

I prefer to look to more independent organisations like EFF and Privacy International.

Who's sock puppet are you anyway?

Remember the 90's and Microsoft FUD

Wow...Microsoft attacking their competitors with FUD. They must really be scared of Apple especially now that Windows Phone 7 is about to go head-to-head with iPhone 4.

I expect to see more attacks from Microsoft and some pretty dirty behaviour from them as the OS & hardware wars of the 90s replay themselves. They fought the dirtiest last time round and I expect similar behaviour this time too.

The fear Microsoft is feeling is entirely of their own making due to sitting on their arses and not releasing any innovative phone software in 7 years. Presumably Microsoft will rely on FUD until they implement the missing major APIs and functionality in a second or third release of WP7.

Very smooth

Worked fine for me. Updated and carried out a full re-sync in about 30 minutes. No problems with any of my apps or functionality.
