Tell me this a joke.
Please tell me this a joke.
They are so fucked. Even with Germany's strong regulations on corporations, IBM will still screw them.
I hope I'm wrong. Lufthansa was once a well repsected company by its customers.

"Many would see living in helplessness as being worse than death."
Because it is.
As for the fear of identity theft, it's quite real. As we've seen, this happens literally millions of times each year.
Even in the US, being shot by a gun in ANY situation only happens thousands of times each year. That's still a high number, but only a small fraction compared to identity theft. It takes weeks and often months to get it sorted out. Meanwhile, there are bills to be paid and they don't care about your problems, no matter who caused them.
They are ossified.
Of course it's well known I have very little respect for IBM these days, along with thousands of others.
The only bright spot I see at IBM is their Tivoli family of software. From storage to desktop support tools, it's pretty decent kit. Is there better? Of course, but Tivoli tools are actually not bad at all for general everyday use. These days, that's saying a lot.
Oh, and the fact that they've switched their employees' desktops to Linux. That really quite surprised and impressed me.
Other than that, they are a petrified turd.
"Magic Leap is based down in Florida, and has no products, revenue, or public business plan, as far as we can tell."
Hmmm, this somehow sounds familiar. Where I heard of this before?
Oh! But why would they need any of those things when all you really need in this life is the right connections? Which apparently they have.
Wait. What?! Florida? Uh oh. You might want to keep an eye on this one, El Reg. Florida is known as the scam capital of the nation in the US. (outside of Wall St and Hollywood that is)
Learning is always more effective and attractive when it's fun (barring life and death lessons that need to be learned)
I'm all for opening up the potential pool of techs and programmers any way that can be done. Anything, ANYTHING, to lessen the numbers of alpha basement bois and programmer hacks. ("hacks" as in bad writers)
I worship no deity nor cult of personality. Yes, I know. I'm odd.
Buddha was wrong. But if I remember Siddhartha correctly, wasn't he very, very rich at one time? Ah. So.
But hey, if you think he was right, go ahead try to feed and shelter yourself relying solely on the generosity of your fellow humans for more than a few days or weeks. I dare you. It can be done, but you would still be a statistical outlier. A very FAR outlier.
I had an issue like this a few months ago. Turns out it was something that had anonymously (hidden) piggybacked on an install I had done and it took me a day to track it down and uninstall it.
It was some kind of beacon/redirector/tracker thing and was causing some of my "everyday" websites to load very slowly.
P.S. I use a pair of plastic $9 TDK HP 100 headphones myself. Had them for over 5 years now. Only had to replace the ear foam once. Best damn cheap headphones I've ever heard. My test was using them while listening to music that I know every pop crackle to that I've heard literally over a thousand times over the last 3 decades. I'd buy another pair in a split second if I could find them on the shelf.
Apple bought out Beats for stupid money and kicks out the obviously superior product (*Bose) in both a retaliatory and anti-competitive move.
Wow. Just... wow.
(* yes, yes, I know there are better and cheaper products out there than Bose, but Beats are not it)
Tried looking at schematics, blueprints and spreadsheets on a phone every day? A phone will do in a pinch, but is unacceptable for every day mission critical situations.
I know for a fact that tablets are now the preferred choice for field techs of most of the largest companies in the world. Field tech who go places where ONLY a phone signal is available and 3G is luxury.
That's the first rule of most businesses these days. Create the problem, even if you have to buy politicians to do it and then sell the solution.
And by create, I mean literally. Most of life's little problems were solved in the last century but most the solutions were manufactured as cheap as possible by planned obsolescence.
Good for them. I still thinking carrying something that big in your pocket is a stupid idea, but I love these guys for being quick and innovative.
That said, I really think clothing should have long since adapted to carry electronics. There is NO reason it can't be just as stylish.
The cloud is not only the dumbest security move you could ever make, but it really, really, isn't ready for prime time yet either.
Synchronizations? If you're lucky. Fast access? Only if you got really fat pipes. User and admin interface? Don't make me laugh. A kid with crayons could do better. Reliable storage? Comes with a unicorn.
Current cable entertainment providers (CEPs) will eventually be reduced to being just ISPs.
I can hardly wait.
As for broadcast TV, in my city they run mostly old TV shows, a pretty decent local news production with some decent national and international news and if you really like obscure old movies (and I do) they are THE place to see them.
Oh, and the picture is HD and the old shows and movies are very nicely restored. In fact, they never looked so good.
The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage
First saw this a few years ago. Highly recommended weirdness!
