The software fix may show better signal than is really the case, but lower received signal strength probably also means the phone needs to be transmitting at higher power which means the battery will drain faster!

Not to mention that weaker signal and higher transmission level fries the brain faster ;-)

And of course calls will appear to drop despite 4-5 bars being displayed!
