In reply to The Indomitable Gall: The mall has security cameras to protect _itself_. To help with emergencies, deter larceny and prevent spurious lawsuits. The cameras are not there for the shoppers.
Security footage taken on private property doesn't need consent (release) if the people are not identifiable. There is no 'agreement' as to the use of such footage, if you enter the property, there are signs stating you waive your right to not be filmed.
Finally, 'invasion of privacy' in the US is still waaaay behind the UK, the country with the most CCTV on earth.
