Re: Heard Lewis on BBC R4 this morning

Don't believe everything Lewis writes, Tim. most of it is total bollocks.

£1bn+ Royal Navy destroyer finally fires 'disgraceful' weapon

Thomas82

Don't believe all you read!!!

PAAMS is as much British as it is French. Lewis is just being petulant.

Thomas82
FAIL

Epic fail, Lewis!!!!!

Lewis stated - "The primary reason for purchasing a Type 45 is to obtain Sea Viper (aka the Principal Anti Air Missile System, PAAMS), which accounts for most of its cost."

Oh my!

Erm, I think you'll find that the SAMPSON radar accounts for most of the ships cost. Lewis.

And how is the SAMPSON radar Franco-British-Italian equipment? It' is not. The French- Italian system is EMPAR, a far cheaper and inferior system.

I can't tell if you're deliberately misleading people or just pushing your anti Type 45 agenda?

Thomas82

Oh my.

Daring was commissioned on 23 July 2009, that's hardly 'several years', Lewis.

You are a strange one.

Electric mass-driver catapults to beat Royal Navy cuts?

Thomas82

Who has the 2nd best navy?

You'd be wrong about the Russian navy(largely useless). China and India are having great difficulty manufacturing nuclear submarines(China has them but there is considerable doubt on their effectiveness) .

Besides, numbers are irrelevant for the most part. At no extra cost, the RN could do double in size and be half as effective.

Thomas82

Oh my.

One third of the cost? Source?

South Korea has nuclear aircraft carriers?

ROFL!

Duff French missiles for Royal Navy finally fixed

Thomas82

French missile????

Why are the missiles referred to as French when BAE is the largest shareholder (37.5%) of MBDA? Surely that makes them British as much as French, no?

Also, if the Astute submarines already have block IV tomahawk, why put them on an expensive AWD platform like the Type 45. It's not like the RN is going to use 'shock and awe' on anyone. Furthermore, fitting an anti-ship missile isn't a huge undertaking and will probably occur at some future point.
