I spend a lot of time away from internet access (my college doesn't have wireless internet access), so I think I'd be a lot better off with an Android tablet.

I used to use Thunderbird 3, but I've moved to Postbox Express. I'd had lots of problems with Thunderbird freezing up randomly, but I've never had such problems with Postbox Express.

32-bit vs 64-bit

With regards to 32-bit vs 64-bit, I'd recommend the 32-bit version. I've got 4GB of RAM, and Ubuntu with PAE picks up 3.9GB. I'm perfectly happy to have 0.1GB of RAM less for thecompatibility with Flash and some apps etc.
