Official: AMD now stands for All the Money, Dudes!

Iainn

I'm not sure why you think Nvidia support for 10 years. All Fermi architecture is now in legacy status, only being supported by critical bug fixes until Q1 2019.

Fermi started releasing in 2011 (maybe some in 2010?), with some of the later cards appearing in 2012. That gives a primary support range of around 6 to 8 years.

FreeMeter

I like FreeMeter, so I can quickly see what my 'Net connection is up to. Sits in the systray and at a glance I can see graphically how much bandwidth is being used. It's old now and crashes on system startup but I still like it - any alternative solutions welcome.

Correct

As I type, I have the immortal (in more ways than one) letters IDDQD emblazoned on my water bottle at work. Not a single person yet has ever 'got it'...

If only games were this difficult these days. I can't actually remember completing this game, but I do remember how bloody hard it was. Terror From The Deep was also good too, but didn't really add much.

And don't know why it wasn't mentioned, but you can relive the X-Com games through Steam for only £2.99 a pop, or £8.99 for the pack.

Difficult to decide whether this is a simple troll as we've now had 2 previous topics on this... or if this guy just missed the bus.

Boffins devise way to hide secret data on hard drives

Iainn

Isn't the fact that there is software installed on the computer that controls the disk locations an indication that there is something to hide? And if the software doesn't employ encryption, you would have much easier access to the data should you find it (unless the data is encrypted separately, which would be logical). And at 20 meg per 160 gig, you're rather limited on the volume of data you can store. Think we need more info on exactly how this works as I don't really see the advantages this has over a Truecrypt archive/partition, which offers complete plausible deniability (although may not be completely hidden).

Bluray isn't just for watching 1080p movies, the storage they provide is excellent. This thing has Thunderbolt so why not Bluray too? In 5 years, yeah you can plug in your Thunderbolt drive but try to access content on a Bluray and you're stuffed.

I am hoping this post was tongue-firmly-in-cheek, but if the ISP's had to pay for a national firewall, you would be looking at adding a ridiculous sum of money to the cost of your connection.

So yes, your gross is unaffected but your Net will take the hit. Pun very much intended.

Stalker: Call of Pripyat

I'm sadly behind on my PC gaming. The only game I can remember playing that was released this year was Stalker: Call of Pripyat. So I'll vote for that as it was pretty good.

The case is made by Fractal Design, it's a Define R2. I own an R1 and the case is awesome. And anyway, aren't most PC cases plastic-clad aluminium?
