Wow, another NSA leak: Network security code appears on GitHub

This isn't SkyNet

You'd have a chance with SkyNet.

The USA has no business dictating computer and security policy to anyone when it can't even protect itself.

I would love the recent 21 million record data theft to be traced back to an NSA introduced weakness in the Ethernet, SSL, or crypto protocols. Karma, what a concept.

Re: The Right Stuff

If all they are doing is going to low Earth orbit, it simply isn't worth it.

We need to go to the moon, Mars, and other places. We need to set up mining and refuelling operations, a space elevator to build large interstellar ships. We need orbital hotels and tours to Saturn's Rings. We need humans in other star systems.

Otherwise a big chunk of ice will wipe us all out one day.

We just need to leave all the politicians, bureaucrats, religion and lawyers behind when we do leave.

HTC in crisis: How did it get to this point? How did it get this bad?

Nice hardware, crap management.

I have an HTC One. Great little phone with Beats audio and an amazing battery life.

Their management does waste a lot of money though and that is a simple correction. Fire a few at the top and the rest should get their act together.

Re: No SSL/TLS?

No secure communications can be made on systems, protocols and designs created by the Americans. They have deliberately undermined those standards since their inception to be able to crack them easily.

The only way forward is an open source methodology with international review combined with strong encryption standards where the algorithms are public and available for stringent testing.

Anyone who depends on the 'Mericans for security will be disappointed long term.

You can do like many companies and move where legislation is not as strict to do your business.

The USA is sliding downhill fast. Police powers, corruption and a blase attitude about human rights is running rampant, Silent Circle moved to Canada, Lavaboom formed in Germany, and others are on the way. The US is no longer a haven for tech companies (unless you have a fruit logo on your product).

NSA spying is illegal? Then let's make it law, say Republicans

NoneSuch Silver badge

Re: Me sideways

This is the new strategy.

It takes years to contest an illegal law. When it is declared unlawful, no one is punished, they just vote in a new law to be fought in court.

Someone needs to go to jail before this will change and as the government runs the courts, guess just how likely that is.

Data centre doesn't like your face? That's a good thing

NoneSuch Silver badge

With respect you missed the BIG one.

Ensure the company you are entrusting your data to is fiscally viable and monitor that they remain so for the duration of your stay in their data center. If they ever go under, your assets and your access to them may be restricted for a long time.

Ensure your backups are made frequently and stored on your infrastructure. Have a transition plan to other resources using only those backups.

Lots of companies offer data centers today. Not all of them should be in that business.
