I feel sick after reading the first few lines
If I read the rest my 3 day weekend could be a 4, hmmmm...

WebM is the only choice, HTML is an open standard, WebM is an open codec.
H264 comes with no future promises.
We need a codec that will evolve and stay open and free.
All the crap about device support is pointless, this isn't a decision based on downloaded video, this is about streaming, and when WebM is chosen as the HTML5 codec chips will be made.
As for Apple products, no problem, the upgrade cycle is short enough that the new chips can be in the next gen devices before wide adoption. :p
What MS did was create a version which would only work on their browser on the dominant windows platform.
What Google have done is create a version with add-on's which would only work on their platform, much like any other platform version. They all have odd hooks specific to the platform.
Aachi & Ssipak is a very good film dealing with this subject.
Synopsis:
Sometime in the future, mankind has depleted all energy and fuel sources, however they have somehow engineered a way to use human excrement as fuel. To reward production, the government hands out extremely addictive, popsicle-like "Juicybars", which in turn also act as a laxative. Aachi and Ssipak are street hoodlums who struggle to survive by trading black market Juicybars. Through a chain of events involving their porn-director acquaintance Jimmy the Freak, they meet wannabe-actress Beautiful, whose defecations are rewarded by exceptional quantities of Juicybars. For that reason, Beautiful is also wanted by the violent blue mutants known as the Diaper Gang (led by the Diaper King), the police (most notably the cyborg police officer Geko), and others.
OK here's the deal, I tried to register, I chose reoccurring £1 a day since I'll use it once in a while if I don't have my bike with me and the site says clearly it will only reoccur when I actually use the bike, I then proceeded to register.
It tried to charge me £4 straight off, with no explanation of how that works, am I prepaying the £1 for when I first use it as logic dictates? or for the first day as a thieving bank like Barclays would dictate, I just don't trust Boris perhaps...
I find that Bus drivers are very good at spotting cyclists and keeping out of the way, Taxis on the other hand seem to only care about stopping for a fare and will sweep across in front of you and stop feet from the front of your bike, if you try to then speak to the driver you will be lucky not to be shouted at or hunted down till you lose the cab in traffic.
I even had one put his hands around my neck after I (calmly and in shock) told him he had nearly killed me, even his passenger agreed. This was just a few months ago. I told him I would report him to TfL and he backed off, I wish I had.
That's just my 24 years experience as a cyclist in East, North and Central London. These days I keep the hell away from taxis and their nutjob drivers.
My daily experience of motorcyclists: Arrogant, Violent, Speeding, Weaving, Law-breaking, Polluting, Arseholes basically.
I think it's time the police paid more attention to them, and time we had speed limiters fitted to all motorbikes.
I was stopped and searched recently...
The officer said it was because a section 60 was in force covering the borough of Hackney, I asked "oh is that the s60 used at demonstrations?" he answered "No".
After the search and ID check I asked another officer who had searched my friend "So this section 60? is that of the Criminal Justice Act?"
He said "Yeah that's the one" my officer was present so I cleared things up for him "this is the same section 60 used at demonstrations, BTW may I have a receipt?"
Always ask for a receipt.
I use Gmail, but have a Hotmail account for spam.
Someone asked wtf the newbusy (newspeak init) is all about, I had no idea, I even said "it would make sense to run the campaign if there had been a difference made to hotmail, I just don't get it!" And if I don't get it (10 years in IT) wtf do the users think?!
MS are worse than bad at marketing, advertising a service before it launches is prolly one of their more honest mistakes, using Hotmail does in fact suck time from your day and make you more busy!
Damn the Register for misleading us so.
It must be a dastardly plot against Apple!!!
I nearly waited a month or so before checking if I could get some crappy glass-backed locked down lack of choice box. Bugger, can you tell I'd rather be seen with a 3310?
I'm running ChocolateEclair AKA the HTC 2.1 update with slight overclocking during use and underclocking while in standby, it's super fast and great battery life.
* If however you install the official 2.1 version you'll never know this joy as you won't be able to load custom updates. *

I don't quite understand, has no one pinned them down (say on a national tv show) and asked why? Properly! Like Paxman in the 90's Why? And what's up with the opposition there?
Why don't you trust the people who elected you? Do you think they will trust govt ever again?
Seriously if this keeps going I'd like to see private wi-fi mesh networks spreading soon.
iPhone OS is rather limited, on purpose of course, it's for a phone after all, too many options will slow down use and confuse, you don't want that on a phone for say a 50 y/o CEO or a 14 y/o girl or even a 25 y/o Dalston hipster.
Android is on the other hand open, customisable, and due to this it changes it's appearance from one device to another, this confuses the CEO/teen/hipster market as they learnt to use their iPhone by repeating what they saw in the intro video (Parrot fashion, like MCSE "Learning" compared to a Uni degree).
My point, Android is for people who want more than a phone and more than Steve Jobs will allow them, people who know why the machine goes bing.
Can't wait for a front facing camera on an EU Android, those skype/fring calls are gonna be fun! :)
