Brit couch potatoes increasingly switching off telly boxes in favour of YouTube and Netflix

CASIOMS-8V

Re: No

Thanks for the advice all , so with a TV capable of receiving broadcasts which doesn't have the antenna cable in and hasn't been tuned in I still have to pay to be on the safe side I guess.

It's not good to risk getting fines and stuff with my job.

I really wish the TV license was done properly so you subscribe to free view or something with your license details so people like me can opt out if we want to. I see it as a TV tax propping up an organisation I don't want anything to do with. Shame.

CASIOMS-8V

Re: Brilliant?

Totally agree wondering if I can stop paying the TV tax , er license

CASIOMS-8V

I have switched completely and so do I still need a TV license ?

I haven't watched TV for years but still pay for the license. I switched 100% to Netflix / Amazon Prime / Youtube years ago. I looked it up on the TV Licensing website and it was a bit cryptic saying ' if you think you don't need one stop paying , tell us, and we may visit you and fine you if we decide otherwise ' or words to that effect.

Has anybody else stopped using TV 100% and stopped paying the license with no problems ?

LulzSec hacks EVE Online as rampage goes on

CASIOMS-8V

what he said

"Also there is no reference to the post at the Eve Online website from the COO stating they took both the game servers and web site offline in response to a DDoS attack for them to check for signs of compromise."

CCP didn't cave in to the DDOS as the author of the article suggests. They cautiously took the entire thing offline as they were worried the DDOS was a smoke screen for something else. Which correct me if I am wrong it is understood this is what happened with SONY?

As for the forum wailing - the EvE forums are always wailing. I haven't had time to read them all but the few pages I read on General Discussion very early this morning showed a balanced view with about half saying good job CCP - you can't be too careful and the other half comprised of naive nitiwts wanting free stuff for the downtime.

I salute CCP for how they reacted to this. Paying customer for several years btw.

Actually really good fun

"Each user of NoScript has the difficult task of learning and understanding how the web is constructed, so as to make informed judgments about what bits of it have access to run programs"

I've been using it for years and I actually found it really fun seeing all the different domains involved to run a particular site, third party ads, traffic monitoring, google analytics etc.

I have had friends use my machine and wince in pain when websites don't load all the content, after I explain about NoScript and show them what to allow / keep blocked they generally end up installing it themselves.

Did the iPad just save Wired, and Conde-Nast?

CASIOMS-8V
Paris Hilton

I can see this working

I can see a future of girls reading Vogue etc on their iPads, its just a bit smaller than the slimmed down magazine size and the option to have embedded movies, make up demonstrations, linking straight to where to buy / reserve new clothes etc will be a win. Instead of cat walk photo shoots you can get a little movie with sound of the latest bit of flutter.

It's cute. I had a demo version which I was looking at in a pub before they were released in the UK and all the surrounding girls loved it's cuteness.

Afterall it's perfect for a handbag no ?

I am sure there will be applications for us guys too but I can just imagine the excitement of my magazine devouring GF at this. OMG ! many magazines all on my iPad in one place with the latest stuff, the old stuff I can read *whenever I want* over and over and look ! Movies of clothes !

happy for less coffee table clutter.
