'Maybe we haven't been clear enough about med records opt-out', admits NHS data boss

NHS carelessly slings out care.data plans to 26.5 million Brits

Re: More details

No, the opt out codes will not block screening invitations. Extractions with explicit consent or implied consent for direct patient care - such as retinopathy screening - will not be blocked.

Re: opt out link?

"Direct link to the form http://systems.hscic.gov.uk/scr/staff/aboutscr/comms/pip/optout.pdf"

No - this is the link to the Summary Care Record, not care.data

You do not have to fill in a form to opt out of care.data (or the SCR for that matter), there is no obligation to put your objection in writing. You can email your surgery if you want, or just tell a receptionist or your GP.

Please don't make an appointment with your GP just to opt out, whatever you do!

Re: opt out link?

"Am I the only one who refuses to click tinyurl's ? Those who click 'em are idiots, no ifs, buts or maybes.

So here you are:

http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=nhs+opt+out&l=1"

Then you'll end up with the wrong opt out.... - in this case, the Summary Care Record, not care.data

@Pan_Handle

Medical staff treating you in GP surgeries, hospitals, A&E and out-of-hours centres will not use, or be able to use, the care.data database or any of the information stored within.

It's purposes are for "secondary uses", not direct medical care.

Gov denies special celeb NHS record treatment

NeilB

No reason required

Anyone can have their records S-flagged, no reason required.

Just fill in the form and give it to your GP, who'll send it off.

It is up to your GP to agree to do that or not. Once CfH receives the request, S-flagging will take place, no further questions asked.

See my site for details.

WTF?

Pathetic

Could the ICO be any more useless?

A few GB

Text files so I don't think the cables amounted to more than a few GB in total.

Hence how he was able to copy it to a single DVD RW (labelled "Lady GaGa" I believe).

policies

The GP representatives voted for the following:

That conference

(i) believes that patients who wish their Summary Care Record to be uploaded centrally should be asked to give explicit consent to this

(ii) demands that general practitioners are appropriately funded to undertake the work generated in their practices by the Summary Care Record programme

(iii) considers that the BMA should formally and publicly abandon its acceptance of an 'opt-out' system

(iv) asks the BMA to explore the withdrawal of all co-operation with a system based on implied consent

The abandonment of the SCR will no doubt be reviewed after publication of the forthcoming UCL report.
