Fuel prices you say... My brother bleats on about how high the gas prices are in the US and the president is to blame, no ifs ands or buts. I silently do the math for the cost of fuel here in France, and I can only laugh to myself. I'm paying nearly €10 per gallon, I think it was €2.39 per liter at the las fill up. I think there are 3.96 liters per gallon... I'm way too lazy to look up the precise conversion. TLTLIU...
"One born every minute." The school of Barnumomics. Can I get one installed in my self driving car?
I can only think that Porsche affiliated groups would go for something like this. The sales office of an aftermarket Porsche upgrade shop, parts dealer, body and fender repair company specializing in Porsche.
Yes, El Reg has changed a lot over the past couple of years. A lot of it was just bad design and bad style changes, (most recent, up votes and down votes are now smashed to the left) I still keep coming back. A lot of the change is the subtle and surgical removal of certain aspects. Bye bye .co.uk, so long Paris we'll always have, oh never mind. See ya around Dabbsy https://autosaveisforwimps.substack.com/ And most annoyingly of all is Biting the Hand that feeds IT is also gone from the masthead.
"BITE THE HAND. You are getting boring."
Yes, even the new "Who? Me" and "On Call" seem to lack the depth they originally had.
What ever happened to the post pub nosh? And the crazy and fun projects like the PARIS paper plane? Yes, I remember that Lester passed away.
What has happened to the spirit of El Reg? I fear it will vanish into the pool of mediocrity. It's sad really, I have more time to read now, and less entertaining content here to read.
I managed many of my friends' move to Signal. I have to say, it was a good uptake. I only have one cousin that has yet to connect. But these are users from many parts of the world, some, believe it or not, don't have What's APP or it's not popular... so that was a big factor in adoption of Signal.
I'm 99% sure my successor to my throne is\should be getting beaucoup OT, beaucoup, beaucoup, beaucoup! Because in the nearly 5 months notice I gave, management played pocket pool as per procedure, they had plenty of time to find a suitable replacement and now they have to pay another salary to an existing employee, or a nice portion, and hope he understands my turn over notes.
I'm sure you got this... keep up the good work!
The Inquirer was turned off many years ago. Many years ago? Wow, I seem to remember looking it more recently than that... but indeed, it's not anywhere to be found. The only other place I can think of was slashdot... I wonder if my login still exists?
Well, Gents, we can say we witnessed the beginning of the internet, and the beginning of the decline of the internet. Perhaps El Reg is an analog of that process? Shooting star to falling star?
If it's any consolation, we can find Dabbsy here: https://autosaveisforwimps.substack.com/
I don't think Paris followed him.
Grabbing my coat just in case...
I once had a user with a "non-standard issue" monitor(graphic designer). It had a finicky power button, with a LED light. Problem was you could press the button, and it would change color amber, green, but the monitor would sometimes stay dark for up to a minute before lighting up, or you could fiddle with the button and it would turn amber, green, display on in a few seconds Then when you would hit the power button to shut it off, it would go to amber, green, and display on again... and sometimes stay dark until you had left the room.
