NSA coughs to 1000s of unlawful acts of snooping on US soil since 2008

Sir Runcible Spoon

I see the Fnords

"The audit only covers figures from the NSA's Maryland headquarters"

I read this as "NSA's marketing headquarters"

" so at times we find ourselves on the wrong side of the line"

I read this as "so we often find ourselves"

"The FISC does not have the capacity to investigate issues of non-compliance, and in that respect the FISC is in the same position as any other court when it comes to enforcing [government] compliance with its orders"

And I read that last 'compliance' as 'non'compliance.

Is this what is meant by the phrase 'I see the fnords" I wonder?

Re: Just realised

"There are an awful lot of old farts on here that remember the series."

What are you talking about 'remember'. I have all four series and watch them back to back around once a year (with the wife - who is a B7 convert! - so much so she is the one that usually gets them out of the cupboard).

There is no way they will be able to write a script that will match the original. The special effects may have been crap, the acting a bit dodgy, but the characters and their inter-play were second to none.

Oh how we love to hate Blake.

In the film, Enemy of the State, the whole story seems to revolve around an AI gone mad, when in fact it is the AI that is defending the constitution and trying to effect a regime change to stop the traitors (i.e. the current government).

In the end the traitors win and turn off the machine, and the people lost.

Starting to sound more like a documentary every day.

Why would they want to stop it?

As far as I can tell, the American government declaring 'war' on something is simply a statement of support. It is an open code telling all their subordinates what the 'fear du jour' is.

If all these terrible things suddenly stopped happening, what justification will they come up with next? Because they sure as hell won't dismantle what they've built. Too much power in too few hands and surprise, surprise, they have become corrupt.
