Batch File Fix

I thought I'd post the contents of the batch file I've been using to get rid of GWX. It only seems to work until the next update, at which point it needs to be run again, but you could always add it to the startup folder or something (though it needs admin permissions to run).

[Code:]

c:

cd \Windows\System32

attrib -H -S GWX

ren GWX GWX%RANDOM%

if not exist "C:\Windows\System32\GWX\GWX.EXE" GOTO :dodir

ren C:\Windows\System32\GWX\GWX.EXE GWX%RANDOM%.EXE

dir gwx\gwx*

:dodir

REM Check it's gone

dir gwx*

pause

REM Kill the task itself

tskill gwx

taskkill /IM gwx*

[/Code]

I hope that this helps someone.

If this works, perhaps we can petition Microsoft to release VirtualPC as Open Source - it's a lot more compatible than VirtualBox and often (weirdly for a Microsoft product) more reliable too!

Microsoft don't like Pokki

Microsoft don't seem to like Pokki. This morning, Windows Defender took hold of my PC and deleted it. Windows is refusing to allow me to reinstall it. I liked Pokki as it made using my computer much simpler, but even more so I despise Microsoft trying to force me to only use their products. They're trying to win back the crown of "Most Evil Corporation" from Apple and I don't appreciate it. I'd use Linux, but everything I need is on Windows and DOS...

One of the biggest problems I can currently see with DAB is that the frequency used happens to coincide by that generated by LED lighting, ergo: turn on an LED light and all DABs near by lose signal! Great for trolling, of course, but terrible for a technology. Almost as bad as the whole DVB/4G thing...

Re: Radio Silence in Cars ?

Do you not have any BBC rebroadcasts down-under? I'd have thought that that was the perfect thing for the nation closest in tastes to its motherland ;) .

Re: Radio Silence in Cars ?

DAB is great for pirac- I mean recording for later listening, as long as you can get a good enough signal. It's a lot easier than setting your PC up to do it and you get more opportunities than FM. For general listening, though, you can't beat an FM radio with a manual tuner!

Deadly Headshot

Re: Tell you what. Mr. Vaizey...

Yes there is - DAB is ideal for people willing to sacrifice quality, usability and signal availability for lots of channels and who don't have access to the internet!

There's a far more worrying aspect not mentioned here - the European Parliament started automatically blocking emails from concerned constituents about this issue after MEPs complained that they were receiving lots... Excel > 1-2-3? Only at the beginning...

Excel gave Lotus 1-2-3 the kick up the backside it needed - a few years later, 1-2-3 was back to being far superior. However, by then it was the minority... I still have a copy of one of the last versions running on my desktop - it has many features that are even now more advanced than Excel! Just a shame it's missing some of the more basic things that we've come to expect from Office...

Been fine with me

I've used Nationwide for years (among others) and I've never really had a single problem relating to their service! Other banks/Building societies refuse to accept my browser, crash all the time, have unnecessarily complicated login procedures (does it really improve security to have to enter your details on multiple pages? I think not), whereas Nationwide have been consistantly perfect throughout my time of using them. The online banking is simple but effective and I like that (hence I'm not a Mac luser).
