Re: Still reeling …
That was about the size of my first PC hard drive...

sounds like an array copy went wrong & the hapless techs initialized the source drives instead of the destination ones (there is a particularly stupidly configured default option in a vendor provided array copy software that I'm vaguely familiar with). Afterwards, the data could have still been accessed, but once the drives are written to... bing bang bong, good luck with that.
Afterwards, well it is possible to forensically recover (most of) the data, but its very expensive & time consuming - they probably just decided to cut their losses
Uhh, you can turn off "auto calculate" since at least version 4
(maybe before, that was the first one I used, and turning it off was sometimes needed with a large worksheet on a 486)
There is even a button in the calculate group that does it these days!
America, that's AFU.
17 yo Kid sends pic of himself to older girl, gets 10 years for distributing child porn (of himself!!!).
This guy sends pics of himself to a minor, gets less than 2 years.
Remind me which one has actual harm?
"Land of the free" my ass
Approve the name but assign it to the Brazilian tribes living in the amazon. Then Amazon (the company) can rent the name off them, in much the same way that Tuvalu does with .TV. Amazon gets it's name, Brazil gets it's pride, and some under developed areas of Brazil get some funding.
57 mpg
Is that UK or US gallons?
makes a difference when trying to work out L/100km
(or Rods to the Hogshead)
As El Reg is UK based, I was assuming UK gallons @ 4.3L rather than US Gallons @ 3.8L. Then I got wondering, about mpg being different in US vs UK because of the different sized gallons.
Wouldn't be the first time... UK 44 Gallon Drum is US 55 Gallon Drum (aka 192L to the rest of us), or getting a pump rated in gpm (Gallons per minute), having to figure out where the thing was made or designed to determine its actual rated output.
And all because the Gallon hadn't been standardised when the immigrants on the Mayflower left & took their local 431 cu inch Gallon with them (rather than the 461 cu inch gallon that became the imperial Gallon shortly afterwards).
The ZTE Racer has a similar overall specs (~500-600MHz processor. 2.8" QVGA screen etc), Resistive touchscreen on the Racer though.
Big difference: Price, 100 quid on PAYG (or 110 inc 10 topup) vs 230 for the Wildfire.
I mean we'd all like an HTC Desire or a Nexus one or whatever, but those are like 500 of your English Pounds (not counting contract options).
I'd really like a comparison of these new entry level models. even if the Wildfire is better, its still twice the price (& the Desire is 5x the price, the Desire 2 will be the same I presume).
Splashing out 500 large on a phone when I can get something that will do most of what I want for 100-200 appeals to me. (I can use it for a year or so, then buy something better than current high end models way less than todays prices).
What I use a phone for:
- Calling
- Texting
- Alarm Clock
- Occasional pics (in good light)
- Killing time waiting in lines
- 3G modem via Bluetooth
- I like a battery to last longer than a day (of light use, eg 15 min calling, 20 texts, 30 min online)
I don't *need* a smartphone, but boy do I want one (& am price constrained)
anyone played with both a Racer and a Wildfire? Thoughts? comparisons?
Cheers
