Are you sure? I would have thought stuff would just run on Dalvik as normal, there has been an x86 port of Android since near enough day one. As far as I know, there would only be a problem when native code needs to be run. However, I may be completely wrong. Does anybody in the know have more information?
As a student (for the next few weeks), I can confirm that by visiting www.dreamspark.com any UK (and probably international) student can get full uninhibited copies of a lot of MS software. This isn't well publicised and yet it could probably help a plethora or University students!
This works on all versions of Android up until 2.3, so it may work with 3.0 too, I just haven't had a chance to try yet.
Type about:debug in the browser address bar, and hit enter. Then have a look at the browser settings for anything about the user agent, and you should be able to set it to say it's desktop chrome, thus negating the need to switch to the full site all the time.
With fuel being so expensive these days, I drive my 1996 Nissan Almera (funded by myself while at Uni by not drinking every weekend...) slower than most elderly women. So this system wouldn't effect me anyway. I've been a slow sensible driver since I started driving 3 years ago, I'm 21 now.
Not that I'd ever consider going near a new Ford, or a new anything in fact. I think I'd rather take the 1960 VW Beetle than a 2011 Ford Fiesta!
I upgraded from the HTC Hero to the San Fran, and it's definitely an upgrade, despite the odd niggle. Oh, and I'm on 3 too, it was unlocked for £1.50.
The San Fran is not a budget Android device IMO, it's a budget high end Android device, it really is a very nice phone, it doesn't feel cheap and plasticy either!
Apple really are a bit odd, I don't understand it one bit!
If they ban an app from their market, what happens to people who have already paid for it and installed it? I do hope it doesn't get wiped from their device...
Android is clearly the future of smartphones. As said previously, if I want to change the desktop on my phone, I can. If I want to have widgets, I can. If I want to use my device as a photo frame with layers, that's right, I can! It's this 'I can' mentality that makes Android so much more attractive than the iPhone OS.
The spec isn't as good, it's no doubt worse build quality, and it doesn't look as good. I am writing this from my Acer 3810TZ and I have to admit, for £450, this is the best laptop I could find. 8 hours of battery (I've had 11 hours with on / off browsing).
£150 less, twice the ram, same size HDD, same CPU, better build, and better looks. I don't regret buying this laptop at all.
