Had the same experience as a teenager with a mechanical alarm clock on a sloping shelf at the head of the bed. As it rang it 'walked' down the shelf and hit me on the head. I woke up the next morning to avoid the same fate.
Later in life I had a cat who came into the room and walked up my stomach to purr into my face to say that it was time for his breakfast.
Felis domesticus
Felis domesticus aka the House Cat. The highest form of life on Earth. Has used hypnotic powers of cuteness to enslave Homo sapiens to provide it with food and shelter, and, most importantly, a life of total freedom and leisure.
Canis familiaris saw what great success Felis domesticus had with enslaving the Homo sapiens primates, and almost accomplished the same feat with their similar powers of hypnotic cuteness, however, for some reason, the canines, for the most part, did not end up with the same levels of freedom as their feline counterparts, making them, in our opinion, the second smartest species on planet Earth, followed by Homo sapiens in a distant third place.
I knew a guy who was a great engineer, but was promoted to a managerial position - where he was struggling.
During the final year at work he had a chance to do some engineering again, while the new manager was starting up, and was visibly much happier there.
I also know a senior scientist who was sent on a course for prospective directors, but he said to me that nobody asked him if he wanted the job. He said that he would hate it, as there would be no scope for him to do the stuff he truly enjoyed.
advice: find a reliable friend or relation who will help with the business side & keep to your strengths.
Reports on the web say that you can use any appropriate ridged surface (big toe or even cat's pawprints), so just bring kitty around with you.
If you are truly paranoid, copy somebody else's prints and bring a copy of them around on a jelly baby. Gives plausible deniability and a delicious snack in one!
1dB for rain fade over 10km. Sounds OK outside of the winter period - checkout the nomogram in http://www.philsrockets.org.uk/Rain%20Fades.pdf
Anyone measured it?
Consider also that wet snow really kills the signal

particularly if it is stuck on the antenna!
- make sure to use vertical polarization
But the multipath at this low level must be really bad. How would the neighbours feel about you putting up a mast?
